I thhought I would never be on Soulful Detroit ever again because I thought they had closed the doors and locked me, out!! But, somehow, I'm back again and let you guys know that I just saw RICHARD STREET performing for a street fair in Fullerton, California. Richard looked great and he sounded good too!! But, to be honest ... his show was so boring,. he started singing Sam Cooke songs!! It looked and sounded to me that Richard Street has been singing with the band which is not his band; letting the band leader share the "spotlight," and it only made Richard come off lousey!! Because of the powers that be, the leader of the band is also the promoter/producer of the event and other shows Richard performs on and what I heard ... it was like Richard was some kind of "puppet," a co-star just to make the producers show or dream a little better!! Someone tell Richard that he needs to get it straight with the promoter/leader of the band, that when he comes on IT'S ALL ABOUT RICHARD STREET!! Sorry, Richard if you are reading this ... but I'm only trying to help and if you take it a wrong way, that's your problem!! Thanks for having me back and I would like to thank my longtime friend Stonewall!! SPOOKEY |

Right on Spookey! Looks like it's about to liven up in here. I haven't heard and good Vandella stories in about a month. Sad to hear that about Richards show. I'm sure that you'll take these folks to task regarding the BS! GIVE 'EM HELL SPOOK, GIVE 'EM HELL!!!!! |

Hey Spookey, Good to see you back on SD. Were you lost like R&B on Gilligans Island? I'm sure glad you found your way back. When I get a chance I will try and post a picture I have of Richard Street with Martha from back in the day at the Uptown in Philly. Weldon McDougal posted a picture of the Uptown which shows the acts and my picture is from that show. Glad to have you back, keep posting. (Message edited by Vonnie on May 03, 2004) |

Oh, SPOOKIE, I was just about to dish U -- oh, hello, most everyone, "we're back" -- when I read your kind words about me at the end of your post. Well, now that I wiped away "The Tears" (very early D.R.S. song, the only one w/ Mari on lead), I'll dish U anyway. Firstly, that was a very boring "Return of The Spookeyettes" post U did. Richard Street? C'mon, my welcome back post is about "MOTOWN 45"! In fact, I deliberately didn't want to release it until the date changed (read it and U'll see why). U might have stated the fact that RICHARD STREET was w/ THE TEMPTATIONS for awhile (his only semi-claim to fame). After all, he's not exactly a household name -- not even in soulful households. And I'm sure that The Boy From Xtown would have wanted U to mention that R.S. is the former husband of CAL STREET, the lead singer of THE VELVELETTES. But, of course, U didn't even mention the fact that U finally have a magazine website, which features a "Motown Gallery" at web address: www.Chicano-Magazine.com. Oh, where would U be if I didn't manage U? Don't answer that, Ha-Ho! Props to the S.D.F. for realizing in "the switch" that certain trains were derailed to a side track and for contacting us. So now it's like what WANDA sings w/ THE MARVELETTES -- all aboard -- "Destination Anywhere". Spookie, I'm glad U finally got your "ticket". Now I can return; previously forbidden by U to do so w/o U!! I will round up some other side-tracked engines. What's up STONEWALL & Spookey, that's a nice looking page. For some reason, my stupid browser won't display the pictures. Is anyone else having this problem??? I look forward to resolving this issue so I can see the photos in living color! |

And "what's up" w/ U "J" -- since your last e-mail?! How was that RUSSELL THOMPKINS & THE STYLISTICS concert at The Beacon? Perhaps there's already a file here on that show -- not the name controversy! Although as a result of THAT topic, as many of U know, BOBBY ELI and I 86'd that fake "lawyer" from these boards. Say, what lawfirm name did he mis-use? Anyway, if no file yet, "J", maybe U will start one on the R.T.S. show. The show also had the former MOMENTS -- plus the ICE MAN. Thanx for your "Welcome Back", Mr. "J". Oh, yeah, the actual reason I'm postin' on this file here is to reply to your "?": No, it's not your browser that's stupid... it's Spoo...! Only kidding. Although, she thought that it was her browser, too! The Motown Gallery pix (including BERRY, MARTHA, BRENDA, MARI, SMOKEY, CLAUDETTE, et al.) will hopefully be accessible tmo. They're is some glitch at the other end. Howdy, Spookie. |

One small point, which I'm sure Xtown might like made clear - Richard Street is NOT the brother of Velvelettes' Cal Street, (ne Gill). He is her former husband |

Ritchie is rite! RICHARD STREET is the X-husband of Miss CAL STREET (which is where she got her last name). Oh, with this new board, I'll just go edit it! |

Spooky, Welcome home. In trying to sort out some of the problems of getting people registered to the new forum, I was informed that you, along with Isaiah and a couple of other names, were on some banned list. I informed Pharaoh to " let my people go ". Hopefully the rest will show soon. Sorry for the hassle. |

RALPH!!!! Now that's what I'm talking about! I had you figured to be a fair & reasonable man & your words give me even more respect for you! I appreciate your efforts on Isaiah & for all those who are not vulgar haters. Reasonable discussion, we need. Cursing, libellous statements & ranting & raving, we do not! I may not agree with everyones posts or their opinions. However, I do respect their right to feel as they do, whether I agree or not. I just prefer for everyone to disagree in a respectful manner. There's no need for flaming anyone here, we're better than that. Again, I appreciate your efforts, as I feel that everyone, in their own unique way, have something to teach us....even if it's to teach us what the sound of stupidity sounds like. Believe me, we're all better for it! Peace! Juice |

No problem Juice, Thanks for the nice words. Believe me, I always want this forum to be totally open for any discussion, music or otherwise. When I learned a few people had been on some banned list. ( nobody at fault here..just some glitch ) I freaked. I had especially been waiting for Isaiah to appear. Everyone that's been around here for a while knows about the differences between us in the past. However, Isaiah, in my opinion, is a real treasure to this forum. His posts are as thought provoking as some of his well placed barbs. I e-mailed him today to let him know things were cool. Isaiah, when I didn't see you coming on the forum, and knowing things were being taken care of alphabetically, I was thinking you were registering as Zeke. |

Ralph, GOOD CALL RALPH! It's the right thing to do! I'm glad to hear this. I know that some have had their differences with Isaiah. I also have seen the archives & in fairness, I must say that everyone gave as well as they took. I will say that we had a couple of people that got quite malicious, some of the things that I read were quite surprising to me. The point is that I came across posts that were far more inflammatory than Isaiahs & far more vulgar. I have no problem letting folks go at it. I just see no reason for there to ever be any reason for someone cursing out another member, or, calling them disparaging names, or casting aspersions upon their weight, or any such nonsense. One of the worst threads I ever saw here was bashing Bobby E & KevGo big time. I won't mention the partys name, as most are aware of what I'm referring to. Either way, the name was ficticious. I dislike that. Whenever Isaiah had something to say, whether you agreed, or, disagreed, he was man enough to put his name to it. There are instances where I know that Isaiah had disagreed with me & he stated as such. However, we respected the fact that we were of two different opinions & that's how it should be. Back to the offensive thread. I don't know what ax anyone had to grind with Bobby E & KevGo. Whatever their problem was, it could have been handled in a more mature fashion. Regardless of the situation, I thought that the attack was overtly personal, distasteful, vicious & a bit unnecessary. Most of all, I thought that it was unfair. If I'm going to go to that extreme with another man, I'm not going to do it on a webpage. I don't believe in throwing a rock & hiding my hand. If I have a problem with an individual, I'll let them know. And I won't hide behind a pseudonym to do it, that's cowardly. Needless to say, I thought that what this person did was extremely cowardly, that's not how real men carry on. I'd prefer to meet, talk about it & if that's not sufficient, let the chips fall where they may. I didn't think that the conduct was appropriate & that's the type of thing that causes trouble here. The drive-by posters, with anonymous names that have no concern or respect for anyone here. Isaiah may be many things, but, you know that it's him & he's not hiding behind a pseudonym. I respect that. Just as respect Bobby E for defending himself & anyone else who does likewise. What we all need to realize if that we have different frames of refrences. I have a sister who grew up in the same household as I do, yet, her recollections are far from the reality that I knew to be true. If we disagree, we disagree. Throughout my stay here, I've met some folks who appear to be very cool & everyone has passion for the music. There's no need for any of our discussions to ever turn into a pier six brawl. That's not what we're here for. If we simply remember these things & even more importantly, RESPECT one anothers right to an opinion, without getting defensive & angry, we'll all have a happier experience here. As I've read through some of the archives, I'd say that there's been blame on all sides. In my opinion, I think that we should put aside petty differences & personal bullshit aside. There's a very real world out there & it's getting nastier by the minute. If we were on this forum tommorrow & the end was to come, is that what we would want our final experience on this earth to be about??? Not me!! In my opinion, it's time to turn the page on yesterday. We simply can't have it back, much less change it. However, tomorrow can be better than yesterday if we try to make it so. As we're talking about things that we love here, I'd rather see better. God knows that we've seen worse. We need to treat each other better. It's time to turn the page! With respect for all! Juice (Message edited by Juicefree20 on May 03, 2004) |

Juice, As always you are the voice of reason, and I really appreciate your virtue. I also feel the same way that you do. I have had skirmishes with my Bro Zeke, but I'm the type of individual who can respect you for being yourself. I fear no man and I can take it and dish it out as well as the next person. I hope that all who want to come on SD will be allowed and that respect will reign. |

Sis 'n' Vonnie are modeling themselves after Spookie & Stonewall: If one don't getcha, the other one will! S.D.F. breeds "Dynamic Duos" (U all see S.N.L., don'tcha?). And, like THE VANDELLAS sing background in "Never Leave Your Baby's Side"... "Watchout!" -- cause these teams are also interchangeable, when needed. Plus, we have a few in the dugout!
