The latest case of classic song murder, finds Lenny Williams Cause I Love You being mangled. BET was on & on Spring Break, Twista has joined in on the aggravating fad of speeding up ballads. Lenny has become the latest member of The Chimpmunk choir. Someone really needs to do something about this. Sampling is great when done right & accentuates a song. This crap is just being thrown together for no rhyme or reason & is just plain dumb! This is no way to treat those classics! |

Thats the "production" style of Kanye West, the grossly over hyped self absorbed flava of the month dude. BTW.. whatever happened to Rodney Jerkins?? |

Bobby E! Get Paulie, get somebody! Please!!! Man, this is getting sickening. At least we can rest safe in the knowledge that The Embers won't sound like that Kanye again??? Yeah, I heard what he did to Distant Lover, at least he showed some restraint with that one. I had to tell my son where Kanye ripped it from. Maybe this will be all done with by Summer, it's getting real tired, real fast! Peace! Juice |

They'd have to outlaw it! The hypnotic effect would cause seisures throughout the free world. Maybe it could be used as weaponry. I'd send a copy of that to Afghanistan. If that wouldn't make Mr Laden surrender, I don't know what would! Of course, you know what would happen next!!! Kanye for president! Can't wait to hear his remix of "Hail To The Chief"!!!! |

Rodney Jerkins ? I think it was Deborah Cox that recently stated that she was going in the studio with him. I guess it had to be someone that wasn't "hot" this time..... |

Hey Juice...Hate to say it but we'd better get used to it. R&B has been going through a decline during the last 10 or 15 years and it appears to be no end to it...which is why I rarely listen to any thing on the radio now because it just does not appeal to me. Give me the old school stuff anyday over this crap! |

I'm tired of hearing those "chipmunk" songs too. If they move on to Al Green's catalog, somebody's getting hurt. |

What's up Zebop! Teena Marie samples an Al Green LP cut on her new single. I think it's La La For You, I'll have to get to you on that. She only sampled the music, so it doesn't sound like chipmunks. Actually, it's pretty tastefully done. |

How about Method Man/M.J> Blige sampling M. Gaye and T. Terrel's "Youre all I need (to Get By)"...That was very tasteful...I thought |

What's up Slim! That was cool, it wasn't a straight ripoff & they added other elements that made the song work well. They didn't ripoff the song note for note...it was done well. |

Hey Juicefree, I'm going to be on the look out for that Teena Marie song. I certainly don't have any problems when the sample is used well but I remember P. Diddy did an Al Green sample, and it was horrible. |

Since there is such an onslaught of kanye West 'Chipmunk records' I think that I will do the reverse and record some horribly slowed down samples so that maybe we all could just sleep thru the remainder of this bull doo doo!! |

The thing about this chipmunk crap is that it's not new, much less, original. Back in 1988, a Rapper called Positive K & Mc Lyte had a song called I'm Not Havin' It. In that song, they used a sample of Turn Off The Lights by Teddy Pendergrass. Believe it or not, it actually worked in the context of that song. This new speeded up crap however, is ridiculous. There's just no rhyme or reason for this. The closest to decent use is Kanye's song where he samples the "every night" portion of Distant Lover. Bobby, I hate to say it, but the internet is flooded with these so-called "screwed" songs. They slow down songs so much they sound like a 45 playing at 33 1/3. Let's pray that they stay underground. If not........ |

Maybe we're just old, square and don't get it. Then again, maybe these young whippersnappers need to be tied to a chair and dissuaded from ever attempting such things again(by use of common sense and cattle prod). -Brian T.(turning into his father) |

Frankly Brian, no, we're not that old. They're the ones who don't get it. The point that they're missing is that a sample should be like an adornment. It should be tasteful, classy & accentuate & flatter the song. If it sounds ridiculous, distorted, or, out of place, it simply doesn't belong. Juice |

NO CREATIVITY!! AND it is being sold by the millions!! WHAT A SHAME!! I am APPALLED at how music is now...I mean, where is the ORIGINALITY? I am surprised that the sample was sold to someone else to destroy. Again, WHAT A SHAME!! Everytime I hear Twista's song, I want to kick my TV/radio in! Eli, if you need a partner, let me know...I am experimenting with that right now! (Message edited by ladymystique on May 12, 2004) |
