Thanks SisD; I found it but missed the Manhattans but caught the Ray Charles Tribute. Poor Ray he's in such bad shape, Jimmy is very upset about Ray's impending death all we can do is prayer for the man. Its so sad. The show here where we are is on cable channel 74, TV-1. Hi Sis! All I remember is that a few weeks they said that he was "seriously ill". His reps declined further comment. I haven't heard a mumbled word since. | ||

Hi Juice & SisD; Before I was not at liberty to say but now the cat is out of the bag because someone leaked it, before long the whole world will know. Initially Ray was both in denial himself and didn't want anyone to find out the true nature of his condition. Sadly Ray is dying, he's only around 100 lbs. now. After years of first heroin abuse which he kicked around 1965, then drinking Bol's gin everyday of his life maybe a bottle a day. He'd line a huge mug with sugar, add a half a cup of gin and the rest coffee and would drink this all day long. His age and the years of abuse have caught up with him, he suffers from cirrosis of the liver plus cancerous tumors of the liver, now the cancer has spread shutting down his organs one by one. Its true last year he had hip surgury & prostrate surgury too but it had nothing to do with his illness this past nine months, last August he was diagnoised with Heptitus C, cirrosis & cancer of the liver, his skin has even turned yellow. I'm not the first to report this problem but do not like doing so, since it will be all over soon and you asked I will tell it like it really is. Its both sad and scary what alcohol abuse can do to a person especially when it catches up to you to steal your health away when your up in age. Ray is 73 years old will be 74 on September 30th. Ray's loss will be a tragic one afterall this treasure could have been with us alot longer. Strange last August was when Jimmy was hopitalized too and his health situation changed dramatically. Thank God he's okay right now. He's very upset about Ray. Elton John told me a few weeks back he recorded a duet a track with Ray and felt at that time Ray wasn't going to be with us for long. Ray's doctor has confirmed this as he, Quincy Jones, & David Ritz all use the same doctor. "Q" & David are both upset very much too. I'm sorry to have to tell everyone at SD such sad & tragic news. Ray will always be an American Icon! Even though he is very ill, Ray is still trying to finish a Jazz Album because he felt all the jazz cats had either died or were just about all gone. Its so ironic. Everyone should pray for him. S.S. | ||

Thank you S.S. Before I found these links, all that his reps said was to pray for him. I remember my parents playing Ray when I was an infant. This feels like another piece of my childhood is being ripped away. God bless & say hi to Jimmy for me! Juice  | ||
