Hi GrahamD; For more pix of my bro Sammy Ambrose and the others... go in "search forum", type on the name of Artist, then underneath "click on November 2003", then "search". You'll find Sammy under Soul Sister's 1960's Photos, and a dozen threads of lots more photos under varios Artists names for November 2003. Good luck, let me know how you made out? S.S. |

OH Kev-Go; Thats very sweet but my georgous days are behind me. The Kangol photo of me is not my favorite, that was just my knocking around street clothes (smile). Plus, I was warned by another poster never put your photo on SD because if someone gets upset with what you post they may tear you personally up one side & down the other, instead of sticking to debating the topic at hand. I've already seen some mean-spirited poster tear up Medusa, kev-lo, & You on appearance, there are some sick people unfortunately lurking around the forum. So thats why I never put any of my tons of photos on here, past or present. Maybe once we have only the registry I may. How was your meeting, I hope you all had a great time together! Lets hear all the fun news! Take Care, S.S. |

Soul Sister: Hey, you look mighty fine to me in your Kangol and gear - your features remind me of a younger Etta James (Jimmmy, you are one lucky man...!). You're right about certain mean spirited individuals (see Old Forum) but I don't let it bother me. I accept myself for better for worse so it ain't no big thing but I understand why you don't want to post pics of yourself. As for Bobby Eli and JuiceFree, they came by my office yesterday (Tuesday). We had lunch at a nearby diner and came back to my office where I gave them a "sneak preview" of some upcoming Detroit-related projects I'm near completing, especially from Detroit's Sport Records catalog (early Dramatics tunes, Four Sonics and productions by Andre Williams & the Funk Brothers' Jack Ashford). It was a fun day for all. Kevin Goins - KevGo |

Hi Sis! You are too modest. No one could possible tear your picture apart. You remind me of one Jamesetta Hawkins. Bobby showed Kev & myself a few pictures yesterday. You're lucky that you're married, you're quite a striking woman. I always admired you for not trying to grab the spotlight. You are 100% behind Jimmy & admire the fact that you always keep him out front. However, I honestly believe that you should paste some of those pictures of you. No one could possibly say anything bad about your visage. On a different note, Bobby Eli & myself met with KevGo yesterday for lunch. Kev played us a preview of the soon to be released Sport Records comp. I must say that there are some nice gems there: a very, very, young Ron Banks & The Dramatics & The Four Sonics have some sweet soul sounds. It was a revelation to me, as I've never heard The Four Sonics before. There's also a few D-Town projects in the works, featuring Mr Jack Ashford & Andre Williams. Wait until you see the Cover: A young Papa Zita & Mr Jamerson himself. The there is the Detroit meets Hi Rhythm section music & that sounds great. Here's a couple of pics, being the shy guy that I am, I'm not in either of them: It was an interesting day & the fellas are cool. Juice |

Hi Juice; Just a little busy filing papers and other stuff, plus we just ordered a new comp. desk, so I need to move some furniture & old record albums out of my office to make room and re-organize everything, plus do a little outdoor work. Re photos, I 'd have to scan some first. I have lots so I think people might get overdosed on me! I have at least three threads full of interesting ones (chuckle)LOL!!! Don't know if people want to see so much of me, but if I do it I'll do most of them or nothing at all, as they tell a story thru the years themselves. I'd really like to see everyone post photos of themselves too both from 'back in the day' & 'today' Perhaps you & Bobby are the only brave ones...(?) We have two "gigs" this month: April 17th. a 'Tribute To Tommy LiPuma' here in Cleveland, with Diana Kraul (sp.), Goerge Benson, Dr. John, Joe Lavano, & others. Then we leave out the next day for N.Y.C. for rehearsals at 'Carnegie Hall' for "The Rain Forest Benefit" that Sting & his wife Trudie Skyler put on every other year, its a really big thing! Also starring are Elton John, Bette Midler, Billy Joel, & James Taylor. It will be amazing, everyone will sing songs from movies, at the end of the first part of the show Jimmy will sing his "Over The Rainbow", then at the end of the show Elton John wants to do something with Jimmy! They should raise alot of money for the rain forest. I'm looking foward to this one! S.S. |

Hey Sis! That sounds great. Take your time with the photos, we'll be waiting to see them. If I don't get to see you & Jimmy while you're here in NY, I'll be quite disappointed You guys have very interesting pictures. I don't have any of entertainers & things as such. I do find the before & after pics to be interesting. Shucks, I've got nothing to hide. My shadow never runs away when I look at it, so I guess I'm not too repulsive I hope that you & Jimmy enjoy the Carnegie experience & that much success is derived from it. As always, may God continue to smile down upon you & Jimmy. Also as always, say hello to my fellow Cancerian Peace Juice |

Hello Kev-Go & Juice; I wish a get together was possible but Jimmy will be in rehearsals during the day, then because of his health issue he will need to get as much rest as possible for the "gig". Maybe when we are in NY for a week in Sept. I haven't been posting yesterday or today because I cleared out my home office to make room for a more useful desk and its hard to type on the floor (smile). Destruction; That was quite a deal as we sell the soft cover version for $20.00 on the "gig" and it has a better cover photo (smile). You should keep in mind the book was finished over 3 years ago, so some of it is errealivent now, so much has changed, also my chapter is in part out of content, and some of the photos information is incorrect. Also alot has been left out of Jimmy's story, the horrors, they changed the names (to protect the innocent), and the missing memoribilia, all because of the limitations by the publisher. David is a great writer though, immense insight into people's true character. Its iteresting reading. Take Care, S.S. |

Hi Sis. I understand completely. Sorry to miss the opportnity, but, I'm sure that it will come to pass. Luv ya anyway : ) Say hi to Jimmy for me. Destruction, great poster there. Kwick who used to be The Newcomers on Stax, wow! Back in '81, I used to jam Kwick's I Can't Help Myself. That used to get my crowd skating big time. It seems ass though no one remembers it, but it was one funky jam. I really need to convert it for my MP3s. Bounce, Rock, Skate, one of the loudest bass tracks ever & funky, funky, funky!!! Even though they borrowed a bit of it from Good Times, I forgive them!! True funk on that card, nothing but the funk. That sounds like a great reunion concert! Peace! Juice |

To anyone on SD who doesn't think there's any good new music coming out these days/years(hello, Galactus?), we should hook them up with the Blind Boys of Alabama or some Robert Randolph, right? This stuff is straight off the hook! Take care, buddy. |

Wonder B, thanks for the correction. Did you happen to see that show? That had to be a slamming show, Slave, Kwick, The Bar-Kays & Vaghan Mason??? That's some serious funk & with all of that bass, I don't know how the walls could have remained standing. That's a great poster there, thanks for sharing it Wonder! I wonder where the fellas are now as well. Maybe there's some mention of Kwick in the liner notes of the CD of The Astors meet The Newcomers. Maybe KevGo has some idea of what's up with Vaughan. Testing Testing.....that's a line from a new cd I have just purchased online from http://www.royaljones.com..... it's kind of funky. the song is Reality(play loud) and has quite a contagious beat and features an indescribably unusual male vocalist . Heavily influenced by the almighty MOTOWN sound and is on MBIBE records.Through a link I also was able to secure a copy of the MARTHA REEVES cd HOME TO YOU!....I am still in the clouds over this . It has been too long waiting for a new release by this legend. I was absolutely xtatic when it arrived yesterday. It has taken me forever to locate .this site is so great!....Any other well kept secrets out there with a good beat that I can dance to? I love to shake my big rusty dusty ass to a low down soul sound. truly! |
