Hi again, dear soulful friends! I wanna made a humble tribute to this favorite vocal group of mine since at the age of 14 years old, in 1976 i acquired the cassette "Drama V". I keep on hear it at the present days jointly with the other Dramatics discography i got. What are your top "dramatic" tunes by The Dramatics? Mine are, in this order: -"She's A Rainmaker" -"Just Shoppin" -"Tune Up" -"Door To Your Heart" -"Loving Time" Peace and Soulful Dramatic Food |

Hello to all, soulful brothers & sisters! I can see here have many Dramatic's lovers! Thanks for dramatically yours and response, friends. hey Soul Sister i likes also the tunes you refered, in fact all the album "Watcha See Is Watcha Get", but perhaps because the first i heard was "Drama V", this other album got more "sentimental" value for me. Speaking of "Watcha See Is Watcha Get", i have the doubt if the tune "Turn On, Tune In, Cop Out" by Freak Power is a imitation (or copy). Especially the intro it's very similar. Hey Sis Detroit, i'm very well, many thanks. Hope all in SD is also very well. I never can't think about you without thinking also about Mighty Clouds Of Joy! Another dramatic tune i have in the "The Dells Versus The Dramatics" album is "Don't Made Me Promises". Also the intro of "I Was The Life Of The Party". Hey, Juice Free, i'm waiting for your Dramatics Part two! (and the second or third parts by everyone, smile!) Peace & Soul Food |

I had a great lp by them in the late 70s/early 80s and I don't recall the title of the lp, but Cecil Womack did a song on it that I really like, "That's My Favorite Song". Great song! |

Hello everyone! Hey, Randy, I think this album you refer can be "Ten And Half" (or 10 1/2) in MCA, 1979. Includes a song write by Cecil Womack and Ron Banks called "Music Is The People's Choice". My fave of this album is "It Ain't Rainin'" with good violin solo and rain sound (as in "In The Rain") at the intro. Is a Lp half produced at LA and half at Sigma (PA). Peace & Soul Food! |

The Dramatics is certainly one of the greatest groups of all-time, and their classic number 1 hits are a given. I've managed to acquire all of their solo efforts also, in their own right, they were great albums in the right decade ( 70's) not the ( 80's). Top 5 Dramatics Songs***** 1) Rainmaker 2) Come Inside 3) It ain't rainin' at nobody's house but mine (L.J.) 4) Paradise 5) Baby Boo Top 5 Solo Song****** 1) Key to the world (L.J) 2) In the Rain (re-mix) Wee Gee 1981 Earwax Records 3) Let it flow (Ron Banks) Truly Bad LP 1983 4) Hold on to your dreams (Wee Gee) 1980 5) Don't go there (L.J)

Hi! There are numerous solo efforts by those Dramatics boys, and some of them are obscure and hard-to-find these days. L.J. had three Tri-Spin singles in the 60s as Larry or Larry "Chubby" Reynolds. After that he started losing weight and became L.J.Reynolds (and after that his career is pretty well documentated). Also many of the members had sung in other groups and even recorded with them before joining the Dramatics, such as Willie Ford and Larry Demps (both in the Capitols), Lenny Mayes (the Casanovas, the Sunrise Movement), Craig Jones (the Quickest Way Out) and Steve Boyd/Barnett (the Five Special). Wee Gee had outings at least on Cat, Juney, Ju-Par, Cotillion, Ear Wax - not to mention his role in the splinter group that recorded for Mainstream in the mid-70s. Besides his CBS releases, Ron Banks appeared on Futura Records (his duet with Belita Woods). Winzell Kelly has a solo cd called The Other Side Of Drama etc. There may be others, but these were the first ones I found at this point. Best regards Heikki |

Hello to all, soulful friends! Thanks for your "dramatic" knowledge, Dramaticblue, Heikiki, Juice Free and all! I have other Dramatics favorites, in fact i started this trheat as the most "dramatic" or "mellow" tunes by this group, but in a general sense, i add at my first list: -"Stand Up And Move" (the most gospel flavored of all i have heard by Dramatics) -"I'll Make It So Good" (got a intro very "mexican ranchera" style!) -"Share Your Love With Me" (precious ballad) -"Turn on The music" (the most funky by Dramatics) -"I'm Gonna Love You To The Max" (good up-tempo) -"Drama V / Treat Me Like A Man" (psiychedelic-symphonic soul at their best with a bass voice very remarkable!) I remember also a Dramatic's maxisingle played at the disco i worked with the label "Drama Five Productions" in the first 80's, don't remeber the title. This trhead made me think in Stubass who told me here one time he is a friend of Larry Demps, they came together at the school! (Stubass, where and how are you!!??) Peace & Soul Food!

Hey Medusa, Yes, "Be My Girl" was write by Michael Henderson and alsom was recorded by himself. I have the two, by The Dramatics in "Joy Ride" album and by Michael Henderson in a Buddah compilation of MH hits. In the linner notes says The Dramatics have a number 3 R&B hit and the writer, MH, only the # 23! Im the "Joy Ride" album also have another good Michael Henderson writed song "After This Dance". I don't knows "Who's Fooling Who", i only knows "You're Fooling You" (from their "Drama V" album), i supouse is not the same. Thanks and keep on "dramatically" yours! Peace & Soul Food |

Hi again, soulful friends! Hi, Medusa, i'm glad this confusion resulting funny for you! Hi, Kev-lo, is a pleasure to salute you again! We have very similar taste in vocal soul groups (except on Silver Convention, smile friend!). It's envoyable your luck for can see those great groups in person! I see that many people loves especially the tunes of the "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get" album. This is the oldier i got and the most recent (from 1980!!) is "Dramatic Way". One time i have in my hands a Lp of the Dramatics in the mid 80's with a illustration of a zenithal view with a girl in bikini at the swimming-pool. I don't buy because this cover art was IMHO some "cold" (as also the music?) The last time i go to Barcelona find the "Dramatic Jackpot" and another original (don't recall it) re-edited "two in one" in CD. Sadly, as other times, when i have acquired too much others CD's before (around 150 euros in one day!! Peace & Soul Food |

I must say this: Michael Hendersons' version of Be My Girl was pleasant, laid back & more subdued. The Dramatics absolutely turned this song inside out!! They added tremendous passion & intensity to the song, turning it from a low-key ballad into a cry of yearning. God did they turn it out!!! |

I don't knows practically nothing from the album "Dramatic Way" (1980) on, except the album by the cover of the swimming-pool I refer before (from the mid 80's) and a maxi on "Drama V Productions". There are so many good tunes by The Dramatics Drama v Welcome back home Be my girl Me and mrs. jones Toast to the fool Get up and get down I cried over you I cried all the way home (A different title) Shake it well Whatcha see is whatcha get (I Like) Making you so happy Go outside in the rain Be who you are I liked all their LP'S from Stax/Volt, ABC and MCA. Some titles I try to recall. I was even a bigger fool by not following up collecting the rest of their mid 80's material, dang! Also Sis Detroit, I remember once having LJ & Ron's Two of a kind on cassette once. Sis, the fellas should keep on their songlist Drama Vs. Treat me like a man, Welcome Back Home (cause dj's are pulling these songs and are constantly playing them when they are about to come to town) and LJ's Can't Get Over Losing You. Great thread Manny.

Helo again, Whitehead Brothers & Sister Roseta Tharpe! Hey, Don! I'm glad you likes also "Drama V / Treat Me Like A Man". From 1976 on, i never stopped to heard it. What a bass line in the instrumental intro and what a bass voice by LJ Reynolds in the last part in a passage almost accapella. I think, when our friend Stubass (finally!) back a board, he can to suggest his friend Larry Demps to visite Soulful Detroit. Thanks to all and keep on dramatically yours. Peace & Soul Food |

Hello JuiceFree - Yes, I did. I went to see a gospel group by the name of "The New Violinaires." I had a great time. Manny - In the link below, is a video. Scroll down to "Studio Video" and click. The quality of the video is not very good but you will see Joe Hunter, Lenny Mays, and Willie Ford (bald head) talking, and a member of the contours. After a brief clip of the identity of the web site, you will see Soulman Leedham, sitting on a chair saying a couple words. It goes by quickly. As I said, the quality is poor. http://ajpromotions.home.comcast.net/enter.html (Message edited by sis on May 13, 2004) (Message edited by sis on May 13, 2004) |
