I saw Three Mo' Tenors last year when they performed at the Detroit Opera House. The three--- Trent-Cook, Dixon and Young ---gave a superb performance, even doing an oustanding job on a 60's/70's soul medley. Continuous standing ovations. I was so impressed I not only bought their CD, but gave about ten out to friends as Christmas presents.
Now I see the Fox Theatre in Detroit is hosting Three Mo' Tenors next weekend. However, it's three mo' guys, NOT THE ORIGINAL THREE TENORS. Some colleagues of mine, purchasing tickets thinking it was the original trio, have cancelled now that they have found out this news.
My question is: what gives? Is this another case of name identity theft, ala the Platters, Coasters, Temptations, etc.??? Anyone know.
(If anyone can answer this, it's someone on this forum).

This new trio is also due to do a concert where I live. Having been a fan of the original trio, I was disappointed that none of them were on board, so I decided not to go. But the new guys do sing well. They performed twice on the most recent NAACP Image Awards.

I'm not sure, but I don't think this is a case of identity theft. I believe the concept of THREE MO' TENORS is owned by someone else, not the original three guys.

The following is from http://www.eurweb.com/articles /columns/09042003/columns11176 09042003.cfm --

"The Three Mo Tenors have been re-christened Cook, Dixon and Young, effective immediately. Largely considered by many to be the Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras of the African-American community, Cook, Dixon and Young have over 40 years combined experience, and has appeared in major concert halls and opera houses around the world. In 2001, the trio released a self-titled disc via RCA Records. According to a spokesperson, the name change was imperative -- preceded by a series of events that shocked and angered the group. The tenors discovered that one of their former producers, Brenda Trawick, and her booking agency, Trawick Artists, were allegedly collecting deposits for engagements they had not been made aware of. In what seems like some 1970s music industry name-trademark drama, the group discovered that Trawick, along with the other former producers, Marion J. Caffey and Willet Klausner, were allegedly planning to franchise the name, "Three Mo Tenors." Along with the new name, comes a new and improved show (featuring new repertoire, choreography, and a new look), and new management, CD Enterprises, Inc."
