http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmp l=story&u=/ap/20040427/ap_en_o t/pointer_sister_drugs_1 This is so sad. I remember seeing June on the BET talk show OH! DRAMA a few years back and she said that she had kicked her drug habit. I guess she's fell off of the wagon. I've also seen some recent pics of June & Bonnie performing (without the other sisters) in some nightclub and Bonnie looked just as high and glassy eyed as June did! What went wrong with these beautiful talented sisters? |

Damn Bonnie was fine! No wonder Bonnie's ex Jeffrey Bowen used to produce songs for her with titles like 'Free Me From My Freedom/Tie Me To A Tree (Handcuff Me)'! I've read a few articles where Bonnie and her ex husband Jeffrey Bowen were mentioned and it's been said that he was abusive and didn't like for her to leave the house. Even Mavis Staples has talked about this. What's the real story? I don't condone violence against women by any means but after looking at these pics of the beautiful Bonnie and other old pics of her I can at least see why he was so possessive! Thanks for the scans Wonder!

I also read that Ruth and Anita have taken legal action to ban June from using the name Pointer Sisters. They put her out of the group about three years ago. Did any remember reading in JET about the time Bonnie's husband jumped on June during one of their holiday celebrations (either Christmas or Thanksgiving). |

Hi Rodman, I seen the Oh Drama show when it aired, and I was surprised to hear her admit that she (June) was a recovering crack addict. I heard thru some friends who lives in LA, and the grapevine says it's been rummored it's been going on for more than over 15-20 yrs. I just couldn't figure out why they wanted to stop singing. They said they wanted to retire? They still should have the same playing field and level of success as of ala Tina Turner, because they at least earned it. It has been common knowledge for yrs now. I hope June and Bonnie could take it a day at a time and get well. They are sorely missed. |

Some friends and I saw Bonnie and June's act last year and quite honestly,we were shocked by what we saw. They were both thin as reeds, and looked totally unhealthy and totaly out of it. Even worse, they were singing to track, and the track didn't even have the vocals removed. So during I'M SO EXCITED, you could hear June and Bonnie singing live over Anita's recorded lead vocal. It was so sad that when they left the stage, my friends and I all said that they needed prayer. It was that bad. |

searched the internet trying to find the link to those recent pics I mentioned of June & Bonnie that a saw late last year. I couldn't find them but believe me, what I saw wasn't pretty! If I do happen to run across them again I'll be sure to post the link. Don & Wonder, I don't get what you two mean. Are you saying that Bonnie has been the one with the drug problems all of these years and that June has always looked out for her? On the Oh! Drama segment June said that she has been battling with drugs since she was 14. Wonder are sure that the Cashbox Magazine scan is actually Bonnie? The nose is so much different than on other pics of Bonnie. It actually looks a lot like June in the face but I don't think that she was ever that thick. |

I agree, this is terribly sad. Not least for the fact that there are family members who are simply not getting along together. I used to think that every one loved having brothers and sisters but as I get older, I find that not everyone is as lucky as me.

Hi Rodman, The pic that Wonder B posted is Bonnie, yes. The story about bonnie's problems is quite unfortunately true. I don't know about June's problems since age 14. When interviewer's would ask about sister Bonnie, June would would comment, nothing negitive though. I met the Pointers at the peak of the career (remember those 40's dresses), Bonnie was well rounded and plump. I'm not Pointer Sister bashing, it is just sad news that this recent story is out there. |

Bonnie was always my favorite Pointer Sister !I have always wondered why she never returned to the group not even for a one time Reunion !Didn't Bonnie sing lead on Betcha Gotta Chick On The Side ?Anyway I love Ruth and Anita but I think maybe without their sisters the magic might kinda be gone !Shawn ps Bonnie came to Kansas City,Mo a few years ago on her tour of Gay clubs and I was gonna go but was happy I didn't go cause Heard she sounded really hoarse ! |

Don, do you remember any of the singles from this album you speak of? I know that at least 3 of them (Bonnie, Anita, & June) had done solo projects. I'm not too sure about Ruth. Shawn1-Bonnie sang on all of the ABC/Blue Thumbs songs, which includes Yes We Can Can & Bectha Got A Chick On The Side. Don't forget they were in the movie "Carwash" singing to Abdulla, "You Gotta Believe in Something". They looked good! Handsome |

Hey SDF, No I remember any single. Although I do know Ruth, Anita and June did solo lp's. I was reading a Vibe mag, and I happen to see an advertizement seeing Ruth and Anita's faces about an up and coming CD release. I may be wrong maybe June's face I did see, though I do remember just only seeing Ruth and Anita. I have a funny story about "Chick on the Side". For starters, my mother, who is 83, so forgive her, dislikes the Pointer Sisters because when she saw them sing "Chick on the Side" on Soul Train, they admonished Don Cornelius by saying, "I KNOW YOU GOT A CHICK ON THE SIDE!". My mother was livid because she felt they embarrassed him on television. LOL! She kept saying, "They didn't have to say that! They are some ignorant girls, yada, yada, yada. LOL! Plus she knew Bonnie's mother-in-law who was from Philly and she had some unflattering things to say about her daughter-in-law so my mom was already biased. Nuff said. |

Shawn: You probably are referring to the same SOUL TRAIN appearance I am, where the girls sang BETCHA GOT A CHICK ON THE SIDE. Before they performed it, there was a Q&A with the audience. I think Don questioned the girls about the idea behind the song and Ruth said something like "Don, you know you got a chick on the side!" I guess you had to be there, but her delivery was fabulous. Jimmy Mack, There is a video store in Harlem on West 125th Street, a couple of doors down from the Apollo. They sell rare black video. I purchased four Soul Train tapes, at $15 a piece. Not too bad. I've also seen quite a few collections on Ebay. The tapes I bought were fine, but they were compilations, not complete episodes. So there's little or no interviews and no Soul Train dancing. Artists included Ike and Tina Turner, the Supremes, Aretha Franklin, Ronnie Dyson, Little Milton, and tons of others. |

June was on one of those tabloid extra type shows the other day. She was saying that she was going to keep trying to kick her problem. She said that she wasn't claiming to be a goody goody & all that, just that she was trying to get it together. I caught the middle of her interview, she was just acknowledging that she was working on the problem. |

The Pointer Sisters' 1973 self-titled debut album on the ABC/Blue Thumb label was reissued as a audiophile Gold CD version from Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab in 2002 as a testiment to the longevity and historical significance of that great album and gave the fans of the group what they wanted to hear this album in its pristine sound. On the other hand, I did see the Oh Drama episode where June admitted that she was a heavy drug user and was cleaning up her act at the time, but never I did believe that Bonnie was in the same boat that her sister was. It goes to show you that Crack can take the strongest person and dwindle them down into the image and physical being of a person you cannot recognize. My half brother was a perfect example of that. He died at the young age of 46 last March, I never did recognize him when I saw him in his casket-dark, thin and very old-looking, compared to when I saw him last in January, 1996 at the day of our Mother's funeral-he resembled a bit like Marvin Isley (former bassist for-u guessed it-The Isley Brothers), but more muscular like a bouncer and handsome to boot. All of that was taken away when he got ahold to Crack, or vice versa. I hope and pray that June and Bonnie get help quickly before the same thing happened to them as it did my brother. |

Its so sad that this is where the Pointer Sisters are at now.. They've got one of the as yet untold stories in the industry.. Anita recently lost her only daughter and now June's fell off the wagon again.. I remember in 2000 when she was in people magazine talking about her recovery after her a VERY brief rehab stint. According to the LAPD press release(http://www.lapd.org/press_rele ases/2004/04/pr04247.htm), both Bonnie and June were arrested and booked.. I wonder when we'll see the mugshots.. someone also asked for some recent pictures of one of their shows. Here are a few taken at Disco Ball 2003: (http://www.ktu.com/jacor-commo n/globalphotos.html?eventID=17 526&eventsection=discoball_200 3&pagecontent=discoball_2003) I read a recent interview online promoting their show in Provincetown, with some strange quotes from Bonnie and news that they were working on an album as a duo with contributions from George Clinton and Wu-Tang Clan.. |

There is no way they received permission to search the premises. No one, who has drugs in the home, is stupid enough to give permission. They are going to throw out that evidence. Illegally obtained. (Message edited by sis on May 06, 2004) |

Those mug shots are probably already on The Smoking Gun website. Sis, I hope that you're right. |

When the Pointer sisters went to Studio 54 in the 70s they were asked where Bonnie was and why did they break up....Ask her husband? was the reply. When they played in 'Aint misbehavin' in Boston years ago long before Martha Reeves took over in AC they barely spoke to each other and a third woman had taken June's place.(too old to be daughter)Bonnie has been on crack for years long before June I assume. I still bought the Pointers' lps after Bonnie left but she was sorely missed and I still play Ms Bonnie and I will pray for her. Ruth's solo lp never came out. 2 45s were issued one with Billy Vera (of Judy Clay fame) which I have. Also see Taj Mahal when the trio backed him (minus great gran' mama Ruth)....Gosh girls get it otgether....also in Boston at their play , they took seperate limos(anita and ruthie) cos they were acting like something smellt baaaad with each other. Anita had grown so large I thought she was hiding June under her frock!.....Oh success..the spoiler..... |

Not sure at all Jimmy.. They arrested her, but maybe charges were withdrawn or something.. Whatever it is, the LAPD press release says she was, so that's the primary source.. Referring to LaBrenda.. I didn't know Ruth and Anita were cold with each other during the "Ain't Misbehavin' " tour, becasue it looks like they're really sticking together now.. I know they had to replace June due to "illness" at one point.. June's replacement was an actress named Wendy Edmead.. I remember reading an article at one point(i forget when it was from) that said they weren't real close anymore outside of work.. understandably i guess.. But then again, that was probably before June and Bonnie started sharing their crack.. In any case I hope they get help soon, maybe all four can reunite one day.. All the Sisters have been through so much.. someone oughta write a book! I have to look out for those solo singles by Ruth.. I know Anita also had an unreleased album from when they were on Blue Thumb.. hope we'll see this stuff one day.. |

What was edit out in The PS's video of "I'm So Excited" was the bathtub scene, the money-shot? I said to myself "Wow, did I see what I thought I seen?". Becauuse she wasn't wearin' panties. A friend of mine that worked and freelanced at a production studio using up to date techs said the exact same thing. When I do see that video, I always do see the unedited one the most. |

In a recent tabloid paper, June is interviewed. She admits to having had drug problems in the past. But says these latest charges aren't true. According to her, the drug paraphenelia (sp?) found outside the apartment was not hers. |

June Pointer update: Celebrity Justice covered her court appearance.. She pled 'Not Guilty." No Bonnie, so I suppose somewhere along the line she was let off.. They have an article and a short video interview with her: http://celebrityjustice.warner bros.com/news/0405/14a.html
