Yesterday I was caught up in a early 70's time warp and started jammin' a lot of AM Gold. Then afterwards, I dug out some old tv shows, that more or less, that reflected the times. The years, were 1970-71. The tv shows I dug out were, " The Odd Couple" , " The Mod Squad", and " Longstreet". The slogans for these ABC shows were, " Let's get togther on ABC (1970)" and " This is the place to be on ABC (1971)". Do any SDer's have any favorite tv shows from this network, 60's or 70's ??? Here are mine: 1)The Odd Couple 2)The Partridge Family 3)The Fugitive 4)Room 222 5)Judd For The Defense 6)Green Hornet 7)Batman Peace, Mike Boone (Chancellor of Soul) chancellorofsoul.com

Chancellor...'LONGSTREET?!' Who would have 'thunk' it? I would have not even thought of that show if you did not mention it. Who was the star and cast again? Room 222 was my Mothers show...she is/was a nurse and it depended upon her schedule, if she could watch it...lol... Im waiting for the Patridge family to come on DVD...'Alberquerque' is my favorite song and episode...as well as the one when they got sprayed by the skunk...lol... Add: The Brady Bunch

I think the guy that played Longstreet was James Franciscas...I loved the white german shepard named Pax....a blind detective...who have thunk it! Oh well they had Ironsides. My favorites were The Brady Bunch Nanny and the Professor The Parttridge FAmily (I was upset when I learned that it wasn't them singing! Pre Nilli Vanilli!) Room 222 The original Bill cosby Show Bare Foot in the park (remember that?) The Mod Squad My 3 Sons Petticoat Junction Bewitched Laugh In (corny, but I still loved it!) Mannix Bonanaza More later...

Of all the TV networks, ABC-TV was indeed the hipper company at the time because they were the youngest of the "Big Three". Favorite programs aired on ABC-TV: Mod Squad Mannix The Courtship of Eddie's Father The Music Scene American Bandstand Action '72 & '73 (1970s versions of Dick Clark's Where The Action Is) Room 222 Temperature's Rising Get Christie Love NYPD (starring Robert Hooks) Jackson 5/Osmonds cartoon shows Super Friends Schoolhouse/Multiplication Rock That's My Mama Starsky & Hutch Brady Bunch (every Friday night...) Partridge Family (every Saturday night) Here Come The Brides (starring David Soul & Bobby Sherman!) Nanny & the Professor Jackson 5 "Goin' Back To Indiana" TV special Diana! (Diana Ross' TV special from April 6, 1971 - guest starring the Jackson 5, Bill Cosby and Jim Nabors) In Concert (when Don Kirshner hosted it....) A.M. America (the precursor to Good Morning America) BTW - I do remember "Longstreet" when ABC-TV had their late-night programming during the 1970s. RE: The Partridge Family - David Cassidy did his own singing on the tunes. Music producer Wes Farrell had studio musicians sing background vocals and play the instruments. Kevin Goins - KevGo |

The lead actor in Longstreet was the late James Franciscus, who co-starred with Charelton Heston in the first "Planet of the Apes" film. Longstreet was an insurance detective who lost his sight in an explosion that killed his wife. He later avenged his wife's murder by catching the thieves who set up the bomb. He continued his work as an insurance detective with the help of his best friend Duke (who headed the insurance company) and braille teacher Nikki as well as his dog Pax. Bruce Lee had a recurring role in the series as Longstreet's martial arts instructor. Kevin Goins - KevGo |

Oh yeah...All in the Family and the Jeffersons. Next question about the Jeffersons....who was better...the original Lionel (Mike Evans) or the second Lionel (Damon Evans)? I liked the first one! Also on Bewitched...first Darrin (Dick York) or 2nd Darrin (Dick Sergeant)? Dick York hands down! |

Temperature's Rising with Cleavon Little and James Wittmore is one show I wish they would rerun. I haven't seen it in over 30 years ! Yeah Dyva, Longstreet, lol. Bruce Lee should have had a more recurring role but it would have stagnated him from the movies. Peace, Mike Boone (Chancellor of Soul) chancellorofsoul.com |

Hands down Mike Evans was the best "Lionel Jefferson" of the two. His acting was great and his comic timing was right on the money. Note that after Damon Evans left the show, Mike came back briefly to resume the role of Lionel. Kevin Goins - KevGo |
