I know Lou was in the studio when that was recorded and in fact PLAYED TAMBOURINE on the track (he didn't mention singing backing but no doubt he did, as he was next to an open mike for his tambourine). When Lou played a UK gig in Worksop Notts back in 1990 (I ran his UK tour that year), we were doing the soundcheck & setting up the decks in advance of the actual gig. Lou had been frustrated that he had to sing over backing tapes & couldn't even play his fave instrument, his guitar (he was in the UK as a 'tourist' -- no work permit -- so hadn't been able to fetch his instruments with him -- a bit of a give-away they would have been). To overcome his frustration at this show, we hired a tambourine for him, so at least he could do something with his hands when singing. Well, as he messed about at the mike during the soundcheck, I got my mate to play the Precisions "If This Is Love". Lou absent-mindedly started shaking along to the tune, then recognised it & started shouting 'this is the one I played on in Detroit, this is it...' We all had a great laugh and Lou was pleased with himself. |
