Fantasia, sounds Fantastic, and I think those kind of Good~Singing~Talented Folks, should have their own show...because not everybody can sing...Nowadays, when you search for soul music, you might find anything~~~all of a sudden~~~~~ EVERYBODY got soul...Fantasia was one of the best singers/vocalists on american idol...she sound so much better than the imitators, wannbees and counterfeits, who are 'Trying' to do what she does naturally...and her eyes happend to be Brown. She does sound a bit cattish like Dinah Washington & Esther Phillips though..good observation Pogo. |

Medusa - You are right, but remember. This is not the American Soul Idol. It is the American Idol. Soul hasn't anything to do with it. The quality of the delivery and performance is what "should" be expected. Under the Clinton administration we could expect soul. Under the Bush administration, since this is the American Idol, we should expect, non-soul, like Red. (LOL) |

LMAO @ Sis! Soul music does seem to go to hell everytime a Republican is in office doesn't it? I do have to say that Fantasia is an excellent Soul singer and that I was shocked that such a young woman could sound so soulful in 2004. I hope when she gets her record deal they don't try to water down her sound and make her sing overblown Diane Warren/Mariah Carey/Babs Streisand ballads.

Sis, and I understand, but they already know who's going to sing what style of music, before they perform on stage. I feel if they're going to be Bias or racist (as Elton John said it was), then they should have everyone sing the same style of songs. |

It is the viewers who does the voting. (I hope AL does not manipilate.) They have a list of songs, under the same genre, or type, for the contestants to pick. I believe the guest appearance artist pick which song is to be performed by which contestant. But remember when they had the Motown Sound with THE MIGHTY FUNK BROTHERS, playing behind the contestants? Well, don't tell me that Red sang "My Girl" with the Motown sound, or with soul. Heck, he didn't even sound Motown with the Mighty Funks backing him. |

Thanx...Good Post Rodman!!! I fellya on that. ...and that's why I listen to the (so~called) oldies station, to hear some Good Soul Music, performed by the original Soul artists. A lot of these folks making CD's(recordings) today, should record in somebodys basement, with the power "OFF". (LMAO) |

What's that you say Sis? He didn't sound like Motown? I'd say that Mo-Frown would be more appropriate. Perhaps No-Town would be ok as well. |

Hi Everyone; It is very frustrating, I think the performer's should be able to chose their own material and sing the songs, they themselves, feel suits them best. Free to chose, like the artist's did on the original star search (I think) at the time period when Sam Harris was on. For A.I. canidates to have to chose from material that doen't fit their style or music, they can't feel or get with, doesn't make sense, they must be allowed to chose the music themselves! As far as the voting goes, only one, to a household should be allowed, to be more fair. The way it is now is ridiculous and has no point to it! Just my humble opinion (smile). S.S. |

Personally, I like Latoya better, as she is more well rounded as a vocalist. |

Fantasia does have a very soulful voice. Although I think I'd prefer to see her live rather than hear her on record. On record, I think her quirky voice might be a bit irritating after a few songs. The contestants do choose their own material. They are given a list of songs that have the performance rights cleared, but the choice is up to them. I have read a few articles with Debra Byrd (the vocal coach) and the show's music director (whose name escapes me). I specifically remember Debra saying that sometimes the performers choose the wrong songs and the wrong key, but there is nothing she can do about it. The most she can do is help them shape the best vocal performance out of the material they chose. |

Hi All. I love Fantasia's voice. Her voice sounds similiar to this artist named Lil Mo. I wish her the best in her musical endeavors. Handsome |

Hi Bobby; Welcome back. I have to agree LaToya is the one with the goods to go all the way, what a great voice & performer!! From where I sit she's the only truly professional IMHO (smile). S.S. |

FYI....Debra Byrd (vocal coach) spent many, many years as Barry Manilow's main backup singer. I would assume she gave up that gig to take the American Idol job, but Byrd has got some set of pipes herself! On that same note, rumor has it that Manilow has swooped Jennifer Hudson up and is taking her on the road with him (replacement for Byrd, maybe?). Good for her. She was robbed on the show, and deserves a big break. There's also talk about a recording contract in the works. Jim |

Although I think Latoya is the most versatile performer on the program and is slightly better at handling all of the "theme of the week" curveballs, I might just be more likely to enjoy an album done by Fantasia if the material suited her style. Regards, Ken |
