The lead singer (Jay Davis) of the Final Decisions is still in Detroit. The group also recorded for Bump Shop Records. Jay also recorded a solo 45 for the NY based Abbott label. |

Apart from her 1979 classic "Smack Dab..." Janice Mcclain also did an album in 1986. Also A Janice MccLaine (with the 'E' added) is doing background vocals on Keith Martin's 1995 "It's Long Overdue" CD. I'm pretty sure it must be the same Janice. |

Probably goes without saying, but for those who didn't know, Love Committee were formerly the Ethics, who had several nice singles on Vent. Ron Tyson, the lead singer, is currently in the Temptations. The Velvet record was also recorded as "Betcha If You Check It Out" by the Quadraphonics on Innovations II. Best, Mark |

Joe Freeman from the Ethics and Love Committee is preaching in Newport News, VA. He still has family in Philly and comes up each year to guest preach. We've been friends since high school. |

Im doing a project with Janice Mc Clain as we speak. We are doing contemporary Gospel as wel as seculaar songs. Imo, she blows every other Philly female singer out of the water, she is THAT good!! FYI, her dad, Colly Williams formerly the lead singer of the Students on Red Top, was my second ever record production, with Well make it someday on Poplar, and her mom Sandra mc Clain sang with the fashions on Cameo. Her mom and dad met at my house in North Phily in 19.... |

Hey Acoolcat, Wonder B, Mark, Nosey, K-Bee & Bobby: Cool, Final Decision is a smooth group, thanks for the info on Jay Davis. I just recently picked up another 45 on Bump Shop by them. Mark & Nosey, The Ethnics & later Love Committee (my favorite period for the group) where smoking. As LC they always seemed to have the most positive messages. I loved spinning their disc's in the clubs and loved dancing to them too. Nosey, the singing at church must be heavenly during those guest spots by Joe F. Mark, have always liked the Quad's version of BYIYCIO, but there is something to be said of the Velvets earlier take with it's raw soul and rock (guitar solo) mix. Wonder B, I believe you are correct on the Ethnics LP, I believe I have heard of it, don't own one though. K-Bee Man do I agree with your take on Janice. MONSTER voice and smack dab is a CLASSIC. Bobby, I can just hear it now what you are gonna do with Ms. Mc Clain. whoa!!! May I suggest a Philly Style Stepping number,. You can call it the "Steps of Philly" a take off of the famous stairways to the museum that over looks the park, where Rocky had his statue in front of the museum. What ever you to burn to disc will be smoking.

What's up Bobby E? I enjoyed Janices' 1979 Smack Dab In The Middle. If memory serves me correctly, she was about 16 at the time, but had one hell of a voice. I also liked her 1980s song Passion & Pain. I can't wait to hear your finished project with her. I wondered what had happened to her. I thought that she was kinda cute. Peace Juice |
