When we arrived we were told that Diana Krall didn't want anyone around the stage area when she was rehearsing before. When she came downstairs and spotted Jimmy she came right over, sat down and intoduced herself to him "twice", because he didn't know who she was (chuckle)! She sat with us, was very nice, telling us how her rock husband was in Mississippi cutting a record. I took this shot of she & Jimmy, whom she said she was honored to meet and always wanted to meet him :

Brilliant MusicaL Director Narada Michael Walden worked & won awards with Areatha, Whitney, Mariah, Diana Ross, George Michael, Steve Winwood, & Elton John. He wants Jimmy to work on another project with he & Sting. We'll visit his studio to discuss the project when we are in California in two weeks. Here is some Narada's bio:

The other musical director on the show was Hal Willner, who's worked with Jimmy on other projects such as the "Billie Holiday Salute by Broadway & Hollywood Stars" at Carnegie Hall, The Chicago Symphony Hall, & The Hollywood Bowl, as well as "Stormy Weather" The movie based on the life of songwriter Harold Arlen of "Over The Rainbow" fame & others. Other projects include "The Doc Pomus Tribute". Hal has called to use Jimmy on many of his productions and Jimmy responded when he was available to do so, I'm sure we will be working with Hal again in the future. Here's Hal's bio:

We had a great time. Sting, Elton John, James Taylor, Antonio Banderas, Bette Midler, Melanie Griffith and at times Billy Joel all sat on stage together during dress rehearsals chatting and having a good time. I had to tell Jimmy who everybody was, he didn't know, one of the crew laughed and said they all know who HE is, all the singers know who he is, they all wish they could sing like him! Wow, I 've heard that before but when I heard the sighs from Elton, James Taylor, and others while Jimmy sang, I guess it was a bit emotional hearing Jimmy phrase like he does. It must be all true ! Elton told Jimmy he was so grateful & honored to have Jimmy sing & record his song, and will come to the Iridium gig if he's in NY in September. Bette Midler will be at the LA gig, and Narada will be at the LA &/or SF gig. When Antonio came back from singing his song Jimmy told him how much he liked it, Antonio was blown awat, he said, OMG, YOU telling me that makes me feel so good, and on & on. Jimmy said to James Taylor his song was beautifully done, James was visably blown away, he said he felt humbled that coming from Jimmy, that Jimmy didn't know how much that meant to him coming from Jimmy. Billy Joel who had been staying aloofly off to himself went out of his way to come over and praise Jimmy performance, as did the musicians, everyone from Nile Rogers to the cat who's played on David Letterman for 23 years, an all-star group of musicians. All & all it was a very nice experience. Actress Jennifer Garner and her actor friend Mark Ruffalo were there. Jennifer was so sweet, refreshingly innocent I couldn't help but like her right off. She must of liked our company because she couldn't stay out of our dressingroom!LOL! All the cast had these beautiful poster size black & white photos taken of them. Jimmy sat on a chair surrounded by Billy Joel, Sting, & Elton John, it was a beautiful photo, I hope we can get a copy. They also took solo photos of Jimmy and everyone. Earlier that day Melanie Grffith was in black slacks & turtleneck, straight hair & little make-up. Then in the afternoon she went out to the professionals and came back with a sophisticated look of curled hair-do, heavy theatrical make-up, and a very sexy little black dress to kill! She & Antonio took the most amazing photo together. Antonio was a very sweet, touchy, feely, affectionate type of guy, more so when Melanie wasn't around, so I noticed (he-he-), I noticed he was more reserved when she was on the scene. LOL! A fun person! Elton & I had a nice conversation and he was telling me about the duet Ray Charles & he recently cut together and how Ray looked, so sad he's so ill. We also talked about Jimmy's gig in London in January, he said he would have liked to be there but was in N.Y. at the time so thats when I invited him to the Iridium! LOL!:o I'm sure I'm forgetting alot but that about cover it for now...I think?! LOL!LOL! Always, S.S. |

I forgot to mention Jimmy was the first & only one to get a standing ovation at Tri-C's Tribute to Tommy LiPuma! David Ritz may be writing Tommy's biography. Cool...he already wrote Wexler's & Yentinkoff's, other industry heads! Jimmy was also the only one in the first half of the Carnegie Hall Rain Forest "gig" to get a standing ovation, the ats were packed to the rafters! Others also got standing ovations during the second half of the show. Elton was amazed Jimmy was almost 79 and still steady touring, working all over the world. Ray Charles is 5 years younger than Jimmy. S.S. |

Hi Dyva; Diana gave me her card but can you beleive it I lost it! My bad! OH well. Perhaps we'll meet again. Yeah, Sting was cool. I didn't see the rest of the show's performers (except Bette, who seemed unaproachable & uptight) until the next day's dress rehearsal when I sat with Elton, Antonio, & James Taylor at the onstage table, but I didn't want to impose on them by pulling out my camera on this first meeting together. I almost wish I was pushy but didn't want to come off like that so I held back, but next time I will ask for photos (smile)! I love taking, looking at, & perserving photos, they tell a story of their own through life. So I also enjoy sharing those that may interest other people who also enjoy seeing photos & hearing about an event, especially if it's soulful! Your most Welcome DN, its my pleasure for sure. S.S. |

Hi Nikki; Wow! I wish I'd know about the Jimmy 45's I would have sent you the money to buy them for us. No, we won't be able to make DC event as we are booked at that time. We may do a "gig" in N.J. in early June but I haven't yet confirmed it but will keep you posted. Take Care, S.S. |

SS....So sorry - I didn't know you were looking for his 45s...I guess I just assumed you (or he) had them all! I bought one for my collection - "When Did You Leave Heaven" b/w Everybody Needs Somebody" on Savoy 1154. Hopefully some day I'll be honored to have him autograph the label for me!!! Nikki |

Hi Nikki; Good one! "When Did You Leave Heaven" is a favorite, Jimmy used to do it in his show, now every once in awhile. Rosemary McCoy wrote "Everybody Needs Somebody" and quite a few of Jimmy's records from the 1950's. She'll be honored at your Doo-Wop Event in DC, I beleive. She was a prolific writer for many artists. Jimmy participated in her documentry last October, they shared many good & interesting stories, No problem on the autograph, you got it! S.S.
