Hi folks, Speaking of "blue-eyed soul" here's an insightful article about the Righteous Brothers: http://www.ocweekly.com/ink/04 /10/music-seigal.php It's not mentioned in the article, but Bobby Hatfield recorded a "lost soul" classic in Muscle Shoals aptly titled "Messin' In Muscle Shoals"-highly recommended if you ever come across it on ebay or other sites. Forget about Janis/Justin and other pale imitators-this is the real deal! Eva |

You're right, Barry, Eddie Hinton had a voice ! But, I have the "Rare stamps" LP, by J.J. Barnes & Steve Mancha, on Volt, and they don't seem to be white, looking at the cover. (?) |

Hey Soul Brother. Steve Mancha was black. He also recorded as Clyde Wilson in the group 100 Proof with Joe Stubbs (Levi's brother). Juice |

Hi Barry, I don't have the "Rare Stamps" album, but I found a pic of the album cover on the web, and although the pic is kind of miniscule, this guy doesn't look white to me!;-) http://www.mediawars.ne.jp/~mu ndo/collect/file/s-mancha.html Maybe you're thinking of Johnny Daye, who also recorded a few (awesome) sides on Stax? I was told way back by a reliable source that Steva Mancha was white..and later saw the attached photo in the 'Voices Of The Shadows' soul magazine. I think you'll agree the first info led me to believe he was white. Never too old to learn I guess! Looks like the drinks are on me guys and girls,.. my place Saturday.. we'll raid the wine cellar Barry

Johnny Daye's Stay with me baby is awesome! One of Stax's best. Thanks for the tip on Bobby H in Muscle Shoals. And Steve Mancha- the Rare Stamps album clearly shows he's black.....` |

Barry, you're forgiven ! Personnally, I'd appreciate a bottle of wine, like Medoc, or St Emilion, but maybe it'll be easier for you to get some good whiskhy ? I'll send you my address soon. :o) And talking about blue-eyed soul, has somebody ever listened to Tony Joe White ? |

Hey Soul-Brother, I'm definately on the same page as you! Whenever the frequent blue-eyed soul thread gets started on SD, I always sing the praises of Eddie Hinton. A great singer, songwriter and guitar player! |

Barry, I've asked you about whiskhy, but only 'cause I thought that you're from England, and I suppose whisky is easier (and cheaper) to find in your place. But I'm a (fine) wine man myself, living 40 miles from Bordeaux, and 10 miles from St Emilion. Cheers !!! |

Eva & Mike S, I'm with you. When I bought my Stax Singles Vol 2 when it was first released, I fell in love with Stay Baby Stay. I thought & still think that it is one of the most beautiful ballads I've heard. For me, that one song was worth the $110 that I paid for the set. Of course there are so many great songs in that set, that's just my favorite. When I think of the songs that he might had made, if Otis hadn't died.... I don't understand why that song wasn't a hit.
