Hi guys and gals, Eli here from beautiful, sunny Detroit with the 411 on the new Flaming Ember project. First of all, just let me say that the guys are some of the nicest, and talented group of guys I have ever worked with and we are having a ball working together. We have been rehearsing at Lee Phillips studio in Franklin Village, and recording at Studio A in Dearborn. The songs already recorded will knock your socks off and Jerry Plunk's marvelous voice is better that ever! We are taking it slow picking just the right songs that will eventually make up the album which will catapult the guys right back up to the top of the charts where they rightfully belong!! Last night we went over to see Ray Monette's and Bobby Lewis' bands play and tonight we meet up with Millie, Dennis, Ron Murphy and more!! I have tons of digital pics which I will share as soon as possible. I will get the guys to come on soon. |

I forgot to mention that we went over to Hitsville yesterday and went on the tour and then we went over to United Sound but it was locked up. |

Hey Bobby! How'd you like the Hitsville tour? Kind of sad, isn't it? You'd think with all the money Berry Gordy got from the sale of Jobete that he'd put some into the museum. I was in the mood for a little nostalgia this morning, so instead of taking the freeway downtown Detroit, I took Woodward Avenue. As much as I love my city, I'm embarrassed at all the urban decay. I passed the Motown building where I used to work, the old Hughes Hatcher store, and the David Brodrick Tower building(ex-home of WJLB Radio), and the Flaming Embers restaurant (no relation to our "boys")! It got better once I reached the Fox Theatre, Comerica, Ford Field, then Jefferson Avenue. Sorry for the diatribe...just wish my city would get on track like Pittsburgh and Cleveland have. Come on, Kwame, get it together!!!! Dennis and I will see y'all in a little bit!!

First of all, let me just say that I should have mentioned that the digital camera I used to take the photographs is VONNIE'S and not mine, just a loaner. My bad. Sorry for the oversight and for not posting the appropriate credit. I had a ball last night at the Blarney meeting, Millie, Dennis, Count, Ron Murphy, Sheryl and many new and wonderful people. I must admit that the Detroit musical community share a cammeraderie unlike anywhere I have previously been. Thanks guys and gals and especially Mike S. for hooking it up, and for the wonderful time we all had, and I will be looking forward to July, God willing.

Hey Bobby, I can't believe I finally met you! You're a warm, loving, man with a heart as big as Philadelphia and Detroit combined! Dennis and I had a great time last night, and seeing Jim and Jerry from the Flaming Ember after so many years was fantastic...for one of the first times in my life, I'm speechless..I don't know how to describe the feelings that were in that room last night. Count...did you end up taking Bobby to Jammers?? Jack and Lil, Jerry Nassar (former owner of the Last Chance Lounge), Al Gordon and Marlene, Mike, and Ron Murphy, it was a great evening and thanks to everyone who showed up to see Bobby, Jim and Jerry. Let's not wait another 40 years until we get together again! Lynn and Sandy, you two were missed, and Bobby Lewis, it was a real pleasure meeting you. Count, thanks for being you! If I've left anyone out, I'm sorry...my memory isn't what it was! Millie |

Damn,I missed a good party.I live about two miles from the club you guys were at.Right now I,m in Key west for a few weeks on a borrowed computer. Some good blues bands here.Natually Jimmy Buffet music is everywhere, it fits with the climate. Did I hear the name Cheryl Hawkins? Wow,when Babbitt and I worked in a group called the Twentieth Centuries, she was our vocalist.I haven't seen her since 1966 .Babbitt and I went and with Chuck Berry for a while and the group split up.I sure would have liked to talk about old times with her.Oh well, maybe in july. Hi Millie,it's hot down here (but I ain't one to complain so you ain't heard this from me).Not after winter in Detroit.LOL |

Last night we had the esteemed opportunity to go over to Ron Murphy's National Sound mastering studio and we were blown away by his assortment of rare Dertoit masters including Flaming Ember's Lets have a love in (cause everybody needs love) on Golden World and its amazing rhythym track played through a giant pair of vintage Altec 604 E's!!! We were also treated to some studio chatter by Mr Wingate himself as well as a lot of unreleased Wingate stuff!! Hey Ron, thanks for taking us back to some of the best times in our lives.! Tomorrow it's dinner with the beautiful Millie and then its off to the Flaming Ember's performance video shoot at an undisclosed location. |

As previously mentioned, I got the chance to visit the Motown Museum last week. It was a thrill to actually be in the hallowed halls where some of the greatest music of all time was recorded. The studio felt very intimate and conducive to creating the hits that were created there. However, I was not impressed by the "text book by the numbers" and insincere and lacadasical tour guide. In fact, she seemed to be taken aback by the knowledge presented to her by Mig Mike and myself!! Berry Gordy's apartment seemed like a mausoleum and some of the facts were misconstrued, but hey, the Big Chill generation doesnt know any different. The gift shop was nice and I bought myself a nice basebal cap. Millie was kind enough to present me with the Motownopoly game when we visited her on Wednesday. All in all, I enjoyed being there. |

HI Juice, We only just started. We still have a lot ot songs to sort out. I more than likely go down to Tennessee to put Jerry's vocals on the next batch of songs. He and Bill live there, so it will be a lot easier to do it there. Joe Pullin is gonna mix the Detroit stuff in 5.0 surround out in L.A. |

Today, we took my Mom out to Outback Steakhouse for Mother's Day. They were playing stuff like T.S.O.P., I Wanna Know Your Name & I Just Don't Want To Lonely. I just sat & smiled! I look forward to hearing the end result! Enjoy the rest of the evening!! Juice |

Hey Everyone: Just wanted to say that I had a great time at the pub. Mike did a great job setting it up. Eli- Mike told me that you talked to Lynn Barry and he remembered the old car. That was alot of fun back then. Lenny was always a very humble guy. It was really nice meeting you Eli, hope to see you again soon. Jerry I swear it was great seeing and talking to you, you haven't changed a bit. If I get down to Tennessee this year I am going to look you up for sure. When you asked Bobby to play Poppa was a Rollin Stone I am telling you he really kicked it that night. I really wish you guys could have set in, it would have been great. Oh my gosh Lynn Bruce it was great seeing your name and hearing that you are still around, hope to see you soon , it would be so much fun to reminence. I saw all of the work the count did & it was excellent. I want to see the finished product when that guitar is done. It really was wonderful seeing everyone. Hope it will happen again soon. Love you all, Cheryl |
