26 years ago yesterday, to be exact, George Benson's single "On Broadway" (Warner Bros. 8542) peaked at #7 on the Billboard Top 100 Pop chart on April 22, 1978, and stayed on the charts for 10 weeks. The single from his "Weekend In L.A." album was his biggest hit since "This Masquerade" two years earlier, and became a staple of his live shows ever since. The song was originally written by Lieber and Stoller for The Drifters when it peaked on the Top 100 at #9 on August 6, 1963, and stayed on the charts for 8 weeks. |
