This is probably old news by now but digging thru' my tapes etc had these on tape from years ago with the following written by them...... Little Carl Carlton 'drop by my place/two times' Backbeat records a good dancer at the time both tunes were by J.Armstead both mid-tempo movers. plus this 45...... Carl Carlton 'dont walk away' supposedly a detroit cut involving Andre Williams/Billy Kennedy/Roger Washington. another good mid-tempo dancer..... good soul record. anyone(acoolcat?)know about these. many thanks mel |

Hi Mel I don't buy many 45's but I saw "Drop by my place" in a main street record store in San Francisco 10 years ago for $2. I bought it because I love CC and the BB label. Both sides are credited to Jo Armstead and arranged/produced by Mike Terry. While researching the Fred Bridges story I discovered that BMI credit Bridges/Knight/Eaton for songwriting and JoSteady/UDM for Publishing. Nice double sider but what else do we expect from these mega talented people.

Hi Mel I have "Drop By My Place" (Back Beat #613), and as you say - a nice one it is; thanks to an arrangement from Mike Terry. The flip is "Two Timer." I don't have a copy of "Don't Walk Away" but when I interviewed Carl a few years ago he old me that many of his Back Beat recordings were cut in Deroit - at United - and he sometimes dubbed the vocals on in Houston. |

Thanks Graham always loved (little)carl carl carlton ever since first buying a golden world demo of 'Nothing no sweeter than love'way back around '71/72. David I agree mate the Backbeat logo is yet another unsong label with some superb artists/sounds to its name. I have quite a few on the label and there are some varied names such as O.V.Wright,Jimmy Washington,Barbara Favorite,Jean Elias,Chuck McClean,Lee Lamont,Bobby Adeno etc etc. But Jeanette Williams is a side and a half with her stomping 'all of a sudden'. mel-back on the beat.......... |
