I just got this new CD release of Little Richards' & its great.I had the pix case 45 of "Poor Dog(Who Can't Wag Its Own Tail)"which I always loved but got scant airplay.Richard is in top voice & piano playing. The sound is clean, clear & soulful all produced by Larry Williams with Johnny "Guitar" Watson on guitar and ofcourse Richard on piano. There are 4 bonus tracks on the CD that were recorded in '67 at Abbey Road Studios in London, the producers name escapes me but Richard does a great version of "Hound Dog".On the tracks recorded at Columbia Hollywood there is a great version of "Land of a Thousand Dances", "Money" & "Function at The Junction". The pix in the CD case are good and this was at a time when Richard didn't act so much like a Georgia Peach.I paid $11.98 for the CD through "Collectors Choice" and feel it was good value for the quality.

I am looking for Little Richards version of : 'I Feel Pretty', from the famed braodway play 'westside story'. I heard it in a commercial once. Does anyone know where I can locate it?

"Hurry Sundown" - bought the 45 way back when, and still think it's one of the greatest that Richard has ever done! Worth the price of admission imho.

"I Feel Pretty" is on the CD "The Songs Of West Side Story", which is out-of-print.

UK SD'ers will know that his Okeh stuff like Poor Dog, A little bit of something and I don't wanna discuss it, were all huge favourites on the UK dance scene. There may have been others too, but those were all big floor fillers at places like The Wheel.

The Billboard advert I have for his Okeh album is dated Feb 11th '67...and has a big 'POW' in a flash like something outta Batman!

'I need love' has also had some NS spins too...and can thoroughly recommend Milt Grayson's version of 'Hurry sundown' on MGM...now that bloke has a fantastic voice!

Hello Everyone.

Tony Russi ..

If I remember correctly "Get Down and Get With It" is the same song that SLADE had a big U.K. hit with in the early 1970's, this could explain the comment you've highlighted in your post, as LITTLE RICHARD's version certainly never charted here. I shall have to get this C.D. to check ( as if I needed an excuse anyway!! ).

Roger

You're right Roger. Totally forgot about that cut. Think it was titled "Get down with it" when Little Richard did it. Another stomper from the early days of Northern Soul and looking back the Slade cover was actually pretty ballsy!

Little Richard wrote "Get Down With It"...Richards voice is in fine form on all these cuts. Surprising that 4 or 5 of the songs recorded at Columbia Hollywood were recorded on the same day. The "Poor Dog" does not have the background vocals on it and my 45 does.Lenny, you are right about "Hurry Sundown" what a suprise to me. I never knew that was a 45.
