Juan: Buenos Dias & hola from Soulful Detroit!!! Freddie Gorman is a legendary singer/songwriter who has composed his share of classics (the Marvelettes' "Please Mr. Postman") and was the co-lead singer of the Originals ("Baby I'm For Real"). During Ric-Tic's early years Freddie recorded "In A Bad Way"/"There Can Be Too Much" and "Take Me Back"/"Can't Get It Off My Mind" as well as the Miracle single "The Day Will Come"/"Just For You". In 1980, Freddie released on his Rene label the single "Our Love Has Seen Us Through" which he personally sent to me when I was a teenager (my older brother met Freddie in Los Angeles during that time). Last time I spoke to Freddie (summer 1998) he released a CD on his own under the name Freddie G and was going to reunite with the Originals which he eventually did in one shape or form. An interesting note on Freddie's "Alive Again" on Rene 901: Stevie Wonder backed him up playing harmonica on that recording. My company, Airwave Records, distributed that record. |

Hi Storm64! Please visit also http://www.kolumbus.fi/soulexp r/original.htm (but type soulexpr together) Hi Robb_K! Was Rene 901 leased to Lax, since I've also seen a copy on that label (I don't have it here) ? Freddie also told me that Rene was his label. True? Best regards Heikki |

Heikki: Rene Records was Freddie's label. He released the single "Our Love Has Seen Us Through"/"Alive Again" on Rene in 1980 (I still have the 45 he sent me almost 24 years ago!). Kevin Goins - KevGo |

Yes Heikki, Freddie ran the label, and was owner with a "money" partner. Rene 901 was leased to LAX for part of its release time. |

Regarding Freddie Gorman, his 1962 solo outing "The day will come" is on ebay right now. Not sure what its worth but at 17 it looks cheap at the moment. Not long left though. |

Rob_K, Airwave had some nice dance records, is there any chance that the songs such as the Scherrie Payne tracks and Freddie Gorman will be released on cd? |

Elan: I think there is a chance that the Airwave Records could be released on a CD. There's probably enough interest in U.K. However, I don't know who will need to be contacted. When the corporation went bankrupt in 1985 or 1986 the masters and rights were supposed to become the property of the major creditors. I didn't visit USA those years, so my only connection to the dissolution was signing papers acknowledging that my rights reverted to the creditors. I wasn't there physically to see if the masters were actually handed over. If they weren't, after Tom died, I assume our other partner, Terry Brown had the best access to the Airwave masters, and Rick Gianatos, the other major partner in Altair Records, likely got the Altair masters. I don't have any contact with either of them now. I don't know if the creditors sold the masters and rights to sell recordings and the rights to Clear Blue Music and Blue Standard Music to any record label or person in the music business (the only people to whom the rights would hold value). If so, those would be the people to contact. I've lost contact with Both Brown and Gianatos. I've no idea where they are. I assume a search can be done on the rights to the two music publishing companies, with BMI and ASCAP. I imagine there would be some interest in the Scherrie Payne, Delia Renee, Freddie Gorman, The Love Twins, Michael McGloiry, Bobby Belle, Legacy, Carl Bean, Bobby Gaines, Ceasar Valentino, O'Malley Jones, Take One, Linda Kendrick, Cindi Todd and Mel Carter cuts. There might also be some curiosity value in the Art Posey, Rag Bag, D'Llegance Kil-O-Watt, Hawley Stephens, Greg Forbes, and even the Charles McCormick (Montab Record). A nice package could be made up. Now that CDs could be made at such low cost, the small demand might now be enough to make it cost effective. |
