For the those of you who, like me, love the great group THE EXCITERS--I received an email from Brenda Reid, lead singer, informing me she is back to singing and writing and also is writing a book. Great news! What a fabulous voice this lady has. She's(!) Got The Power! |

Wow - what a coincidence! I also received an email from her (just yesterday) telling me the same things (writing a book/back to singing). I immediately emailed her back and invited her to join the new forum! She also indicated having seen the messages on the old forum about her group, my pictures of Lillian that I posted, etc. I hope she comes aboard here. She sounds like an absolutely delightful person! Hey Nikki, I agree! Have you been in touch with Lillian lately? What's up with her? The photos you posted were great!

Hi Randy, I last heard from Lillian several months ago. We keep in touch from time to time, but she's not on email that often. The email from Brenda I got yesterday came out of nowhere! I've never communicated with her or met her before! So it was a nice surprise! Do you know her personally???? I wonder if anyone else here heard from her too! Nikki |

No, Nikki, I do not know Brenda nor have I ever communicated with her before. Yes, it was quite a surprise, but a very nice one, as I told her in my return email. Brenda WAS scheduled to do a PBS music show, but cancelled due to the passing of one of her daughters. Her son, known as L.A. Reid, wants her working again and, apparently, has some songs for her. It sounds very EXCITING!!!

Great to read that Brenda is still active and is recording with her son. What a voice..Ellie Greenwich has said on many occasions what a remarkable voice Brenda has. It'd sure be nice to hear from her myself. Hint, hint, Ms Exciting! David. |

My fave (alongside 'Blowing up...', of course), is their, 'If love came your way' on UA...fabulous slab of midtempo soul in an Ike & Tina/Sue label period kinda way. Well worth tracking down imo. |

Reachin for the best-produced by Ian Levine during Blackpool Mecca days is a great Exciters tune.It was a minor pop hit and a major northern floorpacker. It still sounds good. Regards FRANCIS T |

They should have had other hits--He's Got The Power was the follow-up to Tell Him and only reached about #52 on the national pop charts. It was, however, a huge hit in the Miami area. "Get Him" was great too as was "Doo-Wah-Diddy", which became a major hit later when covered by Manfred Mann. They also did some good stuff at the Roulette label and later on the Bang label. At Roulette they did "There They Go" which was later worked into "Here Comes The Night" by Them and later David Bowie. They seemed to have a huge British following. I'm not sure of her age, but according to the liner notes on the Tell Him lp she was 17 at that time.

The whole "Tell Him" LP was great...which you couldn't say about a lot of LPs in the early 60's. |
