Tera Shirma Recording Studios

15305-15341 Livernois

TAKE A GUIDED TOUR OF TERA SHIRMA STUDIOS WITH STUDIO FOUNDER RALPH TERRANA

Number 15305 was the 1965 address of Ernstrat Enterprises Incorporated.  Owned by Ernie Stratton, the Rainbow  Studio offered 'a complete recording service for advertisers, broadcasters and national record labels'. Ernie also had his own Ernstrat record label and it's 'Head and Shoulders' release by Patti Young has been keenly sought by collectors for many years.

In 1966, Stratton was bought out by Ralph Terrana and Al Sherman, who eventually converted the former bank next door into the Tera Shirma Studios.

Tera Shirma was used by some of Detroit's finest, eg. Joe Hunter, Mike Terry and Harry Balk.

Another Northern Soul hero, Ollie McLaughlin of Ann Arbor, also used the studios extensively.

George Lemons of Gold Soul, bought the studio in 1970.

Rainbow is now demolished and replaced by a gas station. Tera Shirma (phase 2) is the grey building on the right.
