Mel, I'm diggin' the pics man. I had a couple of copies of this same pic your showing of Alvin Cash & The Rigisters. I think his little brother George is in the lower middle? George plays drums on Alvin's "Keep on dancin'" and was the drummer for the vows. I seem to recall that "Keep on Dancin was produced by Andre Williams of Becon Fat & Jail Bait fame? George showed me how to hold the sticks. George was and still is a kind of drummer that stayed and kept in the pocket. George was supposed to be Glen Murdock & Joyce Kennedy's percussionist when they formed Mothers Finest. I'm not sure if George still lives here, he maybe living in Florida. It broke my heart when I heard Alvin pass. I had all Big Maybelle's sides at one time. My aunt beat me out of all of them. I thought I was hip to her, but little did I know?, she was more into her than I was. And would always sing Maybelle's songs before she knew I had them. That's one sexy, foxy of a beautiful pic of Ms. Jackie Day. I met her a few times too. Don't know if I had any sides on her, I'm not sure? I may had once. Tina Turner & The Ikettes; The best vocal and dance troope in the biz and no one can match them then or now. I think these women started the trend or the term desribed as GO-GO. Whoever came into the Ikettes group and there we're many members, had choreography down pat. I met Ms. Tuner twice, I still can't remember where? By the way is that once Ikette Bonnie Montgomery 2nd or 3rd in the back?! PS Mel, this is the best thread I've seen in sometime! I got to show Larry if and when I talk to him today. Hi Boynextdoor. Here is some information that I have from the book "Girls Groups" by John Clemente. The inital 1964 lineup of The Jellybeans was: Elyse Herbert Maxine Herbert Alma Brewer Diane Taylor Charles Thomas This was the lineup that recorded I Wanna Love Him So Bad. they began touring & after one tour, they recorded the followup, Baby Be Mine. Red Bird began planning a LP, but Diane Taylor dropped out & Charles Thomas was dissatisfied with the material they were given to record. He decided to cast his lot in music production. The group also left Red Bird in the middle of recording the LP. So, after 2 singles, the girls resurfaced as a trio on the tiny Eskee label. Ironically their lone single, You Don't Mean Me No Good/I'm Hip To You, was written & produced by Charles Thomas. That was the last song that The Jelly Beans recorded. Their unreleased sides turned up on the 1987 Charly CD, The Red Bird Story, Pts 1 & 2. The girls left music altogether, but Charles Thomas became an indie promoter & worked with The Manhattans in the '60s. Looking at the photo posted & the one in my book, they appear to be as follows, from L to R: Charles Thomas (for obvious reasons), Alma Brewer, Maxine Herbert, Diane Taylor & Elyse Herbert. Mel, The pic you shown with Alvin with his brothers The Registors or known as The Crawlers. Alvin and his brothers we're earlier we're known as The 4 Steps, they we're tap dancers. The Cash Family moved to Chicago from St. Louis originally. George was an helluva huffer I may add. Al Williams of The 4 Step Brothers fame of movies, tv & club apperances (had started his Jayde Booking Angency) appeared in Vagas along with the 4 Steps. When George would tap he'd get on the drums. Even Frank Sinatra was impressed with the group especially with George's talent. Both groups opened up a show for Sinatra and, one night Sinatra stopped his musicians in the middle of his show and let George play, anyone that knows ol Blue Eyes says he never do that for anyone. George was the vows' (out of chicago) drummer on club gigs only. Since George being young, he couldn't stand around or mingle in the area because he was underage, and would have to stay in the back before the shows began and during intermissions and after. I mean George was young and could play the drums like a grown man a sessioned vetern, he did learn to play the traps too. Alvin's manager at the time was trying to make him a solo artist at the time, and couldn't see George and the rest of his young brothers doing the grown-up thing, so Alvin broke the group up. There are alot of brothers & sisters in the Cash clan so I can't give full names. See, George was the person who originated the dance moves named The Twine that Alvin adapted which "The Twine" was a major seller for him, the rest of Alvin's records sold quite well too, but "The Twine" was his biggest seller. Since George was a dancer he would make up the dance routines, or would make better routines out of any regions dance moves. If anyone ever saw Alvin Cash do a concert you know what I mean. I left this bit of infomation out, but any record that Alvin Cash made SD'ers you'll hear George playing drums...that even made S. Davis, Jr said wow! George was suppose to be Joyce Kennedy & Glenn Murdock (of Mothers Finest fame) drummer, though George was too young to leave home and go out on the road. George maybe with MF now?? I got a thrill to see George, Glen Murdock and Saxie Russell putting down some heavy duty nitty-gritty soul/r&b/funk as a unit with other cats in the vows' band. They we're way ahead of the time. George is married to Kittens lead vocalist Berniece Willis and lives in either Atlanta or Florida. Yeah Mel(andthensome), that's George on the low right of the pic.
