Any members headed to the show? I think that half will be dedicated to Aretha's hits and the other half will be comprised of jazz standards. During the jazz set she will be backed by some jazz players from Detroit. Any body know who will be in the band? Should be crazy...a free Aretha show in Detroit!

Marcus is organizing her band. I've heard many of the musicians are not from around here. Will have more info today.

Aretha was pretty tame ...but James Carter and crew just gave a performance that I will never forget. What a privilege and pleasure it was to see these amazing musicians in top form! Great music, totally entertaining and free!

I was there and she did her "jazz" show which included ballads like "Misty," "My Funny Valentine" and "Sack Full Of Dreams." She also did a roaring version of the flag waiving jazz anthem "Cherokee" -- which featured Terrence Blanchard from NYC on trumpet. Terrence was the only guy in the band not from Detroit that I could see, and I was about 15 feet from Aretha for most of the show! It was great to see her with an all-star Detroit band featuring many of my friends like Ernie Rogers, Steve Wood, Steve Hunter, George "Sax" Benson, Don Marbury, Gayelyn McKinney and the incredible Perry Hughes on guitar. All top drawer players. She also did her usual tunes like "Respect" and "Chain of Fools." It was incredible to hear her so close up -- what a voice! She was thrilled to be in front of a Detroit audience with so many friends and family in attendance. She did not let me down!
