Hello, I've been away for a while...but now I'm back. Hope everyone is doing well... I have a question for you Philly folks(or New Yorkers). Did anyone know Lee Morgan? I am a HUGE fan of his and I'm so curious to find out some information regarding his life and the aftermath of his death. I know about his death (shot to death outside/inside of a club named "Slugs", how ironic is that? Isn't "slug" slang for shot?") and the woman who did it was his common law-wife who was upset with him for leaving her for another woman? I'm wanting to know about his family and whatever happened to the woman who shot him. Is his family still in Philly? Did he have brothers/sisters? Was it front page news in Philly? (I did find the N.Y. Times article on their website). Was he well known in Philly? Was he seen around the city a lot? I do remember reading about his going back to Philly in the early 60's (pre-"Sidewinder" days) because his drug addiction had become pretty bad. What was he like? (personality/temperment) Where is Helen? (This is the name of the woman who shot him, no?) How much time did she get? Is she still alive? Any other information anyone has would be appreciated. As jazz fans know, these artists are given so little respect and recognition (unless you're a Miles, Coltrane etc....) that it's hard to find out anything about them. I understand to a certain degree why this is, jazz dosen't sell and a lot of people have no interest in it. If anyone can help me on this, I sure would appreciate it!!! |

Hi Weldon, I can't believe you went to school with him!! And that you knew Dizzy!! I've written a short screenplay based on the last hours of his life. (Not factual of course) I was just curious to see if anyone could shed some light on his family, friends etc.... Once again, thank you Weldon!! |
