Attention all SDFers and all the ships at sea... The PBS station in your area will be broadcasting Wattstax on the POV show on Tuesday September 7. Check your local listings for the exact time. For us Chicagoans, that would be 10pm. |

DVDMIKE, How is Theresa doing these days? Is she still singing? Does she ever talk about her days as an Emotion? When Songs of Innocence & Experience was first scheduled to be released last month, it originally included solo tracks by Theresa, but they had to be cut due to the length of the cd. Anything you can update us on with Theresa would be appreciated. Thanks |

I haven't talked with T in a couple of years, I might be able to get her phone number from a buddy she sings with. We used to work a 9-to-5 together several years ago and she would tell me stuff about her days as an Emotion . |

Chi Drummer - Thanks very much for the heads up!! Caught the program last night. Absolutely fascinating. I enjoyed the way it was edited. Anybody notice the Love Boat bartender was featured in several of those "man on the street" interview type thangs? |

I saw that! "Isaac" as a street brotha! Did anyone else notice LaWanda Page's "Sanford & Son" husband as well? Did anyone else catch an actor or two? D |

I hope everyone that wanted to see the film caught it. It was amazing to see the people, fashions and attitudes that were apart of those days. The high point for me was watching the Bar-Kays do, Son of Shaft(I've waited 32 years to see them play that!) For me, the film could have been much longer. I would have like to have seen more of the performances from just about everybody. Lastly, was that at least part of ConFunkShun playing behind Rufus Thomas? The drummer looked alot like Louis McCall. |

I saw it last night in part. The actor from the Love Boat was talking alot in his younger days, and saw a few other actors giving their comments. Ruby Dee & Ossie Davis were in the audience. Jesse Jackson was awesome back then. I missed alot of the acts while on another channel but caught Luther Ingram, Kim Weston, The Staple Singers, & Isaac Hayes in his chain-link vest! I'm sure it will be repeated many times on PBS. I liked seeing the atmosphere from back in the day! Did anyone see "The Manhattans" on 'Showtime at the Apollo' over the week-end? I only caught them when they sang "Kiss and Say Goodbye". S.S. |

Thanks Chi-Drummer! What's up with you? I happened to be channel surfing, and ran across the Emotions singing, "Peace Be Still". I saw everybody except The Dramatics & Kim Weston. It was kool, and the outfits were, "out of sight", ha ha, especially Rufus Thomas with his hot pink ensemble and these white boots are made for walking! PBS may air this again, as they are sometimes notorious for showing programs again. Handsome |

Soul Sister: I caught that SHOWTIME AT THE APOLLO episode that you wrote about. If I'm not mistaken, the Manhattans only sang once. This past season, there's been a segment devoted to veteran acts, who get to sing one of their hits. So far I've seen the Delfonics, the Persuaders, Darlene Love, etc. |

I remember seeing it at The Alex over on Madison. Mike I've always known about Teresa Davis being an Emotion. I would have probally forgotten if you hadn't spoke of her. I remember before that got hit records, I mean they got hits while at STAX, they would be still perform for Churches cause I caught a few. Alot of the interviews we're done also with some of the bkgrd vocalist for some of the acts that appeared in the film. Ted Lange from That's My Mama fame, Woody_____ from Sanford & Son, and a few other actors & actress from the Black Action Movies from the 70's. I remember first seeing the film, I would later remember seeing the same faces as regulars in all the TV & Film roles. They we're all in attendence in the audience in the actual making in the film. Also Isaac Hayes' guitarist from The Isaac Hayes Experience would become the Bar-Kays guitarist later. I can't think of his name. I would rank him among Eddie "Maggot Brain" Hazel, Michael "Kid Funkadelic" Hampton of P.Funk and Ernie Isley of The Isley Bros. The highlights of Staxwatts was Kim Weston, The Emotions. I think The Late Rufus Thomas stole the show in my opinion. I do miss Albert King and Johnnie Taylor. In my opinion I liked Little Milton's Stax & Malcaco material over his Chess recordings. I remember seeing Hot Butter Soul cause I didn't see them in The PBS airing. After Chicago, Detroit, and Philly (was still holding on), Stax/Volt and Hi Records was our music. But Stax was innovative because not only they sold funky r&b soul, they put out and released blues and gospel and sold like wildfire. I ought to know I worked at alot of record shop to say that. The other actor who played Woody (Woodrow) Anderson on Sanford & Son (we all saw in the film) is Raymond Allen. No question as of now is he still living or deceased. Derrald |

I think PBS afilliate WTTW ch #11 here in chicago should rebroadcast it one mo' time. When it was aired the first time as it was posted by Chi Drummer. I was quite curious, because they'll usually show an airing during the week and will usually air it again during the weekends. |
