Welcome to the forum Tony & thanks for the info. I didn't know that Lakeside had a new LP & I'd love to hear it. I loved these brothers work on Solar. They had some great funky sides & they sang the hell out of their ballads, especially Say Yes. If I get any info, I'll post it. I'm really glad to know that they're back. When I last saw them on the Sinbad Summer Jam, they were still tight.

I saw Lakeside last October when they headlined the annual "Jazz at Drew" Festival...and they turned the place out !! The group is probably 99% intact from their hit making days at SOLAR, and if anything, they may have gotten better (and they always had a dynomite live show !). If they've got a new CD...I'll be at the "wrecka stow" ASAP.

as far as lakeside they were very underrated.. one the baddest bands of their era.....

I love that new Michael Cooper CD...every cut, but especially "Would You Marry Me Gain", "Butta Love", "Are We Cool", and his version of "Since I Had You".
I like what THUMP is doing. They released the "new" Bootsy, they've got Michael Cooper, Val Watson's (formerly of Timex Social Club) CD is off the hinges, and they have released a "new" (unreleased material) from Midnight Star. Based on their website, one would think that they are strictly a "Lowrider" label...marketing primarily to the Hispanic community...but their "Classic R&B" division could be a force to be reckoned with in the VERY near future...

CHI, Gilly's is chuggin away....fewer big names now (the heavyweights don't want to play clubs anymore, it seems) and more local talent, but always maintaining quality entertainment.

Hello submarine!

Hi, Johneflat

I was wrong. I got the (unfounded) idea that all the Solar Records acts were from L.A. (as Shalamar).
Another Ohio monster band (as Ohio Players and The O'Jays!).
During years I played their "Your Love Is On The One" single to the dead! What a bass-line!
Also a ex-girlfriend requised me one album with a precious illustration of the group ambiented as in the Medieval Era with arcs and arrows. I don't recall how sounds because the "confiscation" was little after the adquisition!

Peace & Soul Food!

Man, I'm sure sorry to hear that Otis is longer a part of Lakeside. Fantastic Voyage, Special, Your Love Is On The One & I Want To Hold Your Hand were off the hook!!!

I always thought that their LP "concepts" were somewhat amusing. I don't have "Lakeside Express", their 1977 debut on ABC. I have their LPs from '78 to '87. Here's a brief collage of their LP concepts:

1978 - "Shot Of Love" 183
1979 - "Rough Riders" 184
1980 - "Fantastic Voyage" 185
1981 - "Keep On Moving Straight Ahead" 186
1981 - "Your Wish Is My Command" 187
1983 - "Untouchables" 188
1984 - "Outrageous" 190
1987 - "Power" 191

They had the BEST album covers... The POWER cover was a dissapointment... Their version of 'I Wanna Hold Your Hand' still kicks butt.
Think Ill play them tonight.

I saw "Lakeside" on the Budweiser Fest at Madison Square Garden in the 80's with Patti Labelle (when she & Michael MacDonald had out "On My Own", tho he wasn't there, one of the musicians was doing his part), The O'Jays, Stephanie Mills, & others... Anyway "Lakeside" gave you a good show for your money, they stood out even though they performed on a "gig" with so may other heavy hitters who were known for their show stealing presentation!!

Lakeside should have been even bigger than they were. Their band kicked you know what & their two vocalists were something else!!! Their ballads were to die for & they were funky & soulful. I think the problem is that they happened to be peaking just as Rap began to blow up & dominate the airwaves & record racks.

Sometimes, timing is everything. Then again, sometimes the music industry just makes no sense.

Lakeside was the kick butt band from back in the day
I liked all of their stuff, one of my favorites being "Something About That Woman":-):-):-)

I hear that Re Re. I loved that Your Wish Is My Command LP & my secret weapon from that LP was the funky cut named Special. I used to mix the instrumental break from Mama Used To Say into that one. I also loved Your Wish, Something About That Woman, Magic Moments, not to mention the ballads I Want To Hold Your Hand & I'll Be Standing By from that LP.

Here's a list of some of my favorite Lakeside ballads:

Shot Of Love LP: Given Into Love & Visions Of My Mind.
Rough Riders LP: All In My Mind, I Can't Get You Out Of My Head & I'll Never Leave You
Fantastic Voyage LP: I Need You, Say Yes & I Love Everything You Do
Keep On Movin' Straight Ahead LP: Be My Lady & Anything For You
Untouchables LP: Alibi & Real Love
Outrageous LP: Baby I'm Lonely, Make It Right & Show You The Way
Power LP: Just A Touch Away & To Be Your Lover

Lakeside & The Dazz Band were two of my favorite funk groups when it came to ballads. Both groups made some slammin' ballads & highly underrated at that. If it wasn't for the fact that I was a DJ, I probably would have missed out on more great music than I already have.

I sure miss Lakeside & those pre-crack days!!!
