I got go to Percy Sledge's house here in Louisiana and write a story about him. Percy's first album in 10 years, Shining Through The Rain, came out Tuesday. Here's link to the story.

Hi Emmett,

Welcome aboard! It's always nice to hear some good news about our icons. I'm glad to know that he's still singing his heart out.

Thanks, Juicefree. There has been so much bad news about classic artists being ill or passing away, so it is good to know that Percy Sledge is a soul survivor. I went to his home for an 11 a.m. interview and he and his wife invited me to stay for lunch. Great Louisiana country cooking.

ANOTHER PLACE I'VE GOT 2 GO B4 I DIE, PERIOD-LOUISIANA!!Great story Emmett, It's good to know that a soul great like Percy Sledge is still among us and still performing/recording very actively. It's truly a blessing that we have him still. Of course, one of my all-time favorite songs is "When A Man Loves A Woman".

Emmett: That's a good story there. I know that you must have truly enjoyed your visit with the Sledges.

Bigdaddy: What makes When A Man Loves A Woman so appealling is its honesty. In the final chorus, when Percy & the horns go off key, it gave that song a greater sense of urgency. I mean, they were so into the feeling & sentiment of the song, it was like they couldn't control their emotion. I think that really helped the songs' appeal. A less perceptive producer might have made them redo the line, in search of a perfect take.

Thank God that they didn't!! In my opinion, that "imperfection" as it were, only added to the charm of the song.

And that what makes soul music great! Making perfection out of imperfection. I'd rather listen to a bad soul song about love and pain from back-in-the-day than listen to something that is polished, but sounding just like everybody else with no meaning whatsoever.
