on the VMA awards. They were great, the best overall performance of the night. It was announced as Alicia Keyes and Special Guests. She started out with "If I Can't Have You" (I think that's the title of the song, please correct me if I'm wrong) then they broke it "Higher Ground". My second favorite performance was the Christina Aguliera and Nelly duet. Christina really blew. I don't understand how they rank her behind Brittney and Jessica Simpson. Personally, I'm glad she sings more on a r&b tip cuz she can SANG. I wonder if they were singing live or was it Memorex? |

Hi Tyrone, I haven't seen the show. However, I think that you can rest assured. Those ladies can honestly sing!!! |

That was a great performance...although Lenny's outfit made him look a little like "Sho' nuff" from "The Last Dragon." Gotta love it. I guess anything goes in Rock-N-Roll. |

Ryon6, I agree with everything you said. I don't remember much about the awards EXCEPT Alicia, Stevie and Lenny and Christina and Nelly...loved those two performances! Other than having a totally beautiful package, I don't think Jessica has one ounce of talent, and as far as Brittany's concerned, IT'S OVER, GIRL...TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN. |

Millie, your moniker kind of reminds me of a skit on "In Living Color." Two guys were signifying and one said to the other, "I'm 'o do a Milli Vanilli on yo ass" "That's when I pretend to kick yo butt, only I get somebody more talented to do it for me." Just thought I'd throw that in. |

Yep - Alicia, Stevie and Lenny gave the best performance on the VMA's. I loved it. |

dvdmike, "In Living Color" was my favorite show back when! Look at all the actors who made it big after that...Jim Carey, all of the Wayans, David Allen Grier, and Kelly Cofield, who I haven't seen do anything since the show. She was extremely talented and usually played off Jim Carey. Was Jamie Foxx on that show too, or another one?? Oh yeah, then there's JLo, one of the "Fly Girls." Anyway, I don't remember them doing the Milli Vanilli skit, but I sure wish I could have! I loved them no matter who they were! |

Jessica Simpson could be great if she could only learn some vocal control. She's probably one of the worst offenders of "over-singing" a song ever. There is nothing subtle or moving about her vocal performances. For that reason, I hate her covers of Berlin's "Take My Breath Away" and Robbie Williams' "Angels." |

Hey Soulsauce, I'm with you on "Take My Breath Away" I have seen her sing this on different shows 2 or 3 times and it is not working for her. |

...and I'm with you on "Angels". She yells it. Hopefully, it'll make Americans want to get a copy of Robbie's version. Great song off a great album ("The Ego Has Landed"). |

Speaking of live or Memorex. In the film, "The Blues Brothers", James Brown's vocal performance was live, the church band and choir were pre-recorded, James just sang to the track. The entire soundtrack, save James' vocal, was cut at Universal Recording in Chicago in late 1979. The movie was filmed mainly on location in Chicago, but certain scenes such as James Brown's part, the sauna scene with Steve Lawrence and the live concert at the end of the film were done in L.A. Aretha's scene ("Think") was shot at Lyon's Delicatessen on Maxwell Street in Chicago. They also used the actual penitentiary in Joliet for the opening scene. They also opened up the Dixie Shopping Mall, which had closed down a couple of years earlier, just for that particular car chase scene. |

Also, the concert at the end of the film was done at the Universal Auditorium in Universal City. What you saw in the film was an actual live concert, but when the film was released, they used the pre-recorded tracks for the audio portion. The reason James Brown sang live to a track was because like Aretha and the late Ray Charles, performers who never sing a song the same way twice, he had a problem with lip synching. |

I seen The 2004 MTV Music Awards for the first time today. And Alica-Stevie-Lenny left that stage ablaze with a helluva band I might add. I'm just realising how deep and talented Outkast really are? I hope we'll get a chance to the the film based on the life of Rick James staring Dave Chappell...is it ok now with u b***ch's!!!!! Don |
