Hey, I was wondering if any of you have picked up this CD by this band. If you are a Stevie Wonder fan like I am, you will probably like it. It's like Stevie doing rock music, but even though it's a rock CD you'll hear definite old school soul and funk influences. I'm sure most of yall have heard this group's big hit: "This Love". Check them out!!

Hey NYC Diva,

Maroon 5 was on SNL several months ago...I thought the very same thing about the Stevie Wonder influence. I haven't picked up the disc yet though.

Steve: I highly recommend their CD, it is one of the best I've ever heard. In an industry full of mediocre acts, these guys are bringing something fresh to the table. It's not the first time anyone has ever mixed rock, funk and R&B, as we well know. But Maroon 5 seems very genuine. The lead singer idolizes Stevie, and they almost kind of remind you of Sly and the Family Stone's sound back in the day. Excellent CD!!!

I've been meaning to pick up this disc for months now. The Stevie comparison is just the push I needed to finally go out and buy the CD.

Thanx Diva!

Soulsauce: You are welcome! In fact, that's the same thing that got me interested enough in taking the plunge and buying it, that a lot of people were saying that if you like Stevie, then you should love it! And I really do, the CD is hot!

DyvaNaye: Have you gotten their CD yet? In addition to Stevie, sounds like they are also influenced by Michael Jackson and even a little Lauryn Hill....there is a cut on their CD that sounds an awful lot like a song Lauryn had on her MISEDUCATION CD. But for the most part, Stevie is the one who comes to mind when you listen to the Maroon 5 CD.

I just purchased this disc yesterday and so far Im really enjoying it. I can definitely hear some of the Stevie Wonder influence. Im also picking up shades of Sting on some songs.

Adam Levine sounds a wee bit like Justin Timberlake on some of the choruses.

I was thinking the same thing about the Sting influence, especially on "She Will Be Loved". Adam and Jesse use a lot of Stevie's phrasing and mannerisms. And "Sunday Morning"...Wow!! I would have SWORN it was Stevie singing that, Adam comes THAT CLOSE! I have been playing it non-stop since I got it and I'm driving everyone crazy in this house with it. LOL

I'm sure Adam would rather have you compare him to Michael Jackson! LOL. And on "Not Coming Home", the live cut, there is a lyric in there that sounds like it could have come from a MJ song.

Diva: I KNOW I'll will be driving my family crazy with this CD too, at least for the next few days!

One of the local newspapers called them a modern-day Hall and Oates. I didn't get that while I was listening, but I suppose different people hear different things. I like Justin's voice for the most part, so for me it's a good comparison.

There are some really cool and sexy lyrics on this album. That Jane chick (whoever she is) must have really done a number on him.

Hey Soulsauce, I don't hear Hall and Oates' influence in Maroon 5's music either but like you said, everyone hears things differently. I guess they made the Hall and Oates comparison because there are a lot of blacks who are into their music, much like we were into H&O's stuff.

This whole CD was about Adam's relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Jane, and I was thinking the exact same thing, that she had to have put him through some real emotional changes. First he loves her, then he hates her, she leaves him and then he wants her to come back only to want her to leave him again and he loves the way she is in bed. I was like, whoa...LOL

After giving this CD a couple of listens, I went back and dug out Sting's "Mercury Falling" album. At the end of "La Belle Dame Sans Regrets," Sting sings with the exact same vocal arrangement as Maroon 5 in parts of "The Sun." When I first heard it, I was thinking that they were covering an old Sting song.

Heck, even the title "The Sun" sounds like a Sting record. Heaven knows that guy is always singing about the sun, the moon, or some rain...LOL

Yikes, it's amazing the kinds of things the brain catalogs, isn't it? Oh well, I guess that's how I found my way to this board. :-)
