Samples, remakes and hooks have been the thing of recent recordings...but remember the songs that would start off with original lyrics and end off in a familiar tune already made by someone else? Let me give you an example: Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go - Adam Ant Fast Love/Forget Me Nots - George Michael Waiting For The Day/You Cant Always Get What you Want - George Michael If Leave You Tommorow/ Baby I Love Your Way - (I forget who did this) Im thinking of some more....do you know any, SDF? |

Those terrible Hits on 45 remakes that had once nice songs to a pulsating techno beat and a man singing as though his nose was plugged up. I must admit I do like the song "Stay" by The Temptations which has them sample "My Girl". It could be considered two different groups as only Otis is the common factor. |

I think that the Grandfather of such songs, has to Sly & The Family Stones', "ThakyouFalletinme". Sly cleverly injected the titles of his previous songs into the verses. You all know these lines: "DANCE TO THE MUSIC...all night long. EVERYDAY PEOPLE....SING A SIMPLE SONG. Mama's so happy, mama start to cry. Papa still singin', YOU CAN MAKE IT IF YOU TRY." Sly successfully name checked FOUR of his songs in one verse. Very economical & slick lyrical usage, wouldn't you agree?? |

Juice: Franklin Ajaye says that James Brown can make 4 songs out of 7 words...and won't say "Good God" & call that one an instrumental ! |

Hey Wicked, Somebody stole that LP from me. That was a funny LP. I used to blend that in with Love Is The Message back in the day. "Don't smoke dope, fry your hair..HIT ME!! Now take me to the bridge & drop me off!!" Then he went into the bands' response to the "Hit Me" command..."We're beatin' your a**" Dum dum dum dum de dum..."We're beatin' your a**". Then he said that James would throw in a couple of grunts & call it Parts 2 & 3. I also liked his Barry White impersonation, though I'd never repeat it here & the Mickey Mouse story. Man, that was some funny stuff. I have to find that LP somehow. Suddenly, I hear ebay calling my name |

Juice, see that is exactly what I mean. All it takes is a thread, some words, and then your writing things down and going to ebay SDF makes you do it!!!!! |

Re Re, Sho You right!! Juice knows from ebay But for now, I'm chillin'!!! I'll wait for now. here are a few Blowfly & Wild Man Steve LPs that I need, as well as Don't Smoke Dope, Fry Your Hair. Speaking of Franklin Ajaye, I wonder whatever happened to his Car Wash co-star, Leon Pinckney. Leon used to hang with my sisters boyfriend around '77-'78. We hung out a few times, back in the day, he used to live in Far Rockaway off of Seagirt Avenue. I still have the practice sheets that he gave me for commercial voiceovers. He encouraged me to go for it. I decided to be a club DJ instead & put his advice to the side. Talk about missed opportunities. Man, what was I thinking?? Ahhhh... to be 18: young & dumb & you know the rest of the saying. Hey, I guess that I had it all figured out |

Juice your right, the SLY stuff was slick. But I also talking about songs that start off with original lyrics and change into a hit song that belongs to someone else. Im sure you will brainstorm a few. |

Didn't realize it until yesterday that Jill Scott's Family Reunion (which I absolutely adore) utilizes the Ojays "Look Over Your Shoulder" and now Nelly & Jaheim have sampled Debarges "I like it" and Teddy's Come On and Go with Me.......I had just mentioned this Ojays record to someone (Handsome/Don I believe) on another thread and never realized I liked Jill Scotts record partly because this tune was underneath.....by the way, it is a beautiful song to Step to......Chi-town in da house..with that Jill Scott Philly thang going on strong this woman is BAD....and the band played on..... DyvaNaye "Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go" wasn't by ADAM ANT, it was by SOFT CELL ( who were MARC ALMOND's group ). From roughly the same era (1981/2), I'd like to mention "Loopzilla" by GEORGE CLINTON, off his "Computer Games" L.P. This featured George singing the chorus of "Baby Love" ( SUPREMES of course ) and a verse of "Hunter Gets Captured by the Game" ( MARVELETTES ). Roger |

Roger, I think that Dyva thought that, as Mr Ant sang his Hideous version of it on Motown 25, where Ms Ross walked out on the stage & upstaged him. I guess that she simply couldn't bear his complete destruction of her song. |

Anyone heard the new R&B version of "Wake Up Everybody" ?. I can honestly say, I have never heard such a pile of dross for a while. Various artists inc Mary J Blige, and they have absolutely killed it, and shown the track no respect whatsoever. It's terrible. |
