Can anyone shed any light on what Donald Smith is doing now ?.
He is Lonnie Liston Smith's brother and was vocalist with the Cosmic Echoes for some time.

He was on one on Lonnie's most famous recordings "Expansions".

I have done a google search but have come up short. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks. :-))

Richard, I'm not sure. Wasn't that a Sun Ray, Sun Ra vocal group?

Singer and instrumentalist Donald Smith initially studied at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he performed in a number of jazz groups on piano, organ, flute, and voice. In 1972 he joined Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers in New York City; since then he has toured extensively in the United States, Europe, and Japan, performing and recording with artists including Cecil and Dee Dee Bridgewater, Benny Carter, Von and Chico Freeman, Dizzy Gillespie, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Oliver Lake, Jackie McLean, David Murray, Archie Shepp, Leon Thomas, and the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Big Band. He has accompanied on piano vocalists Gloria Lynne and Fontella Bass, and served as lead vocalist and flutist for Lonnie Liston Smith and stayed with the Cosmic Echoes for five years.

Don, thanks for trying.

Raymond, I am grateful to you for the information.
I had a feeling someone on the SDF forum would come to the rescue.

Many thanks. :-))

Hello!
Curiously my two Lonnie Liston Smith & The Cosmic Echoes CD's ("Astral Voyage" and "Visions Of A New World") don't featured Donald Smith.
The two albums in one CD reissue ("Exotic Mysteries" / "Loveland") as simply Lonnie Liston Smith (Without The Cosmic Echoes) features Donald as flutist and vocalist in the album "Loveland". Very good flute intro in "Sunburst", specially.

Peace!

Has anyone heard the new Ray Charles cd, and if so, how is it?
