While doing some show prep, my music log showed "(Friends, Don't Take Her) She's All I Got", by Tracy Byrd. Double checking, it's the old Johnny Paycheck song, but allmusic.com lists the author as Gary "U.S." Bonds of "Quarter To Three" fame. Is it really the same guy, and if so, is anyone familiar with his version of the tune? Thanks in advance. doug |

Doug; It's the same guy; it was co-written by one of my personal faves, Jerry Williams aka Swamp Dogg. I don't know if there is a version by Bonds, though; I've never heard of one. Bond and Williams co-wrote several songs together around '69 or so; a few are on Dogg's classic "Total Destruction to your Mind" album , which has a strong soul/C&W feel to it. |

Thank you, Steve... ....I looked around and couldn't find a Bonds version of "She's All I Got". Aparently the writing duo was up for a CMA as Songwriter Of The Year a number of years ago. Again, thank you. I am always amazed by the amount of information contained in the minds of the people who populate this place.... |

Gary US Bonds has a new album (or should I say CD) out...haven't heard it, though. |

Gary is a great guy. We did some things together in the late seventies, and we still stay in touch . His wife and daughter do a great job on backing vocals and doing their own thing as well. |

Eli, you are so right! Laurie (wife) and Laurie (daughter) are both very pretty and very talented. Laurie's best friend, Nilda Reyes, is a very dear friend of mine. Perhaps some remember Nilda. She was a dancer and almost married Chubby Checker back in the early 60s. |
