Man, that's sad news. I was just talking to Vonnie the other night about her song, Imagination from the Flashdance Soundtrack. The only two songs that I liked of hers was Self Control & Imagination.

Rest In Peace Ms. Branigan :-(

I met her at a show in Manhattan when "Gloria" was big. The Stylistics & The Manhattans were on the show with Pablo Guzman as the MC from the radio sponser.
R.I.P. Laura.

Oh my God! If she was born in 1957, then she must be at least 46 or 47 years old. Man, she was young.

I heard about this earlier this evening...such a sad thing...she was only 47, still a young woman!

My favorite song by her was "Self Control".

RIP Laura...

Yes she did have a strong voice-Self Control was hot! The article said she did 2 performances of the Janis Joplin show off Broadway but the Joplin-esque singing tore her vocal chord and she had to pull out. Her last concert performance was July 15

:-( This is too bad. And she was so young!

I feel better knowing that I wasn't the only Soul fan here who enjoyed her hits 'Self Control' and 'Gloria'. I've never purchased any music by Miss Branigan but when her tunes came on the radio I didn't mind. The recordings that I've heard by her were pretty harmless and very catchy. You guys are right her having a very strong voice! She could sing! RIP Laura.

I too loved "Self-Control" and "Gloria". "Solitaire" was another good one of hers.

She was gorgeous and talented. What a loss. RIP Laura. :-(

Best,

She seems to have a tough few years-her husband died in '96 and she stopped performing for 5 years; had to leave the Joplin play and her reocrd sales had decreased. Yet she may have been happy-who knows.
