Dinah's birthday is actually August 29th, she would have been 80 years old. She was a favorite singer of my older sisters and my mom. Boy did they wear her records out. |

Vonnie; Dinah's always been my most favorite female vocalist. The best late night listening ever, besides Jimmy. S.S. |

Happy B-day Dinah! I remebered all the duets she did with Brook Benton. They were all really funny. I love them all. |

Happy B Day to the Queen. She helped a lot of other artists during her career, including Quincy, Redd Foxx,Slappy White, Johnny Mathis, Leslie Uggams and Patti Austin. Whenever I play her landmark album Dinah 62, I always think that Divas need love too........ Kdubya |

A new book on Dinah has just been released. Its called QUEEN: THE LIFE AND MUSIC OF DINAH WASHINGTON, and was written by Nadine Cohodas. I picked it up last week, and found it to be very informative. I didn't like it as much as James Haskins' earlier book. But between the two of them, I learned quite a bit about her. |

Hi Kdubya; Thats somewhat correct, Dinah was also madly in love with Quincy at one time, she & Kim Novak would try to outdo each other sending "Q" gifts even though he was happily married and had a family!! Jimmy loved Dinah like a sister. Whenever Dinah couldn't make a "gig" she would send Jimmy in her place saying they won't be disapointed if they get you. That was sweet. Dinah was known as a tough foul mouthed woman but she was so tender too. The best ever female vocalist in my book Alot of young female singers tried to emulate her, no one could, there was only one Dinah!! S.S. |

My aunt Martha worked with Dinah as one of her dancers in the late '50s or early '60s. She said that Dinah could be a very sweet person, but also she was not someone to be played with. She could be a mean monster when in a foul mood. But above all, the woman could SANG! |
