Hello Submarine to all! Some time ago a very good friend of mine e-mailed me a list of the first 200 singles at PIR (in the US) betwen 1971 and 1979, from a Soul rewiew article. Some of these are with a interrogant, as this rewiew ignored it or, perhaps have some references unexistents in the catalogue numeration. These ar, for example the first 10: PIR-3501 - Gideon Smith - "Arkansas Life" / "When Two Worlds Can Successfully Collide" PIR-3502 - Johnny Williams - "It's So Wonderful" / "Love Don't Rub Off" PIR-3503 - The Ebonys - "You're The Reason Why" / "Sexy Ways" PIR-3504 - Dick Jensen - "Three Cheers For Love" / "Going Up For The Mountain" PIR-3505 - Bunny Sigler - "Everybody Needs Good Loving" (Part 1) / (Part 2) PIR-3506 - Bobby Bennet - "Days Go By" / "Bumble Bee" PIR-3507 - ????? PIR-3508 - ????? PIR-3509 - Billy Paul - "Love Buddies" / "Magic Carpet Ride" PIR-3510 - The Ebonys - "Do It" / "Determination" In the first ten there are two with interrogant. As, also, these others: -PIR-3511 (preceded by the one mentioned by Ebonys and followed by PIR-3512 by David Sigler & Dee Dee Sharp, "Conquer The World Together") -PIR-3549 (preceded by PIR-3548 by Ebonys, "Hook Up & Get Down" and followed by PIR-3550 by The Three Degrees, "When Will I See You Again". -PIR-3555 (precede by PIR-3554 by Bunny Sigler, "Keep Smiling" and followed by PIR-3556 by Thad Jones & Mel Lewis Big Band, "All My Yesterdays" -PIR-3564 (preceded by PIR-3563 by Billy Paul, "Billy's Back Home" and followed by PIR-3565 by O'Jays, "Give The People What They Want" -PIR-3603 (preceded by PIR-3602 by Don Covay, "Travelin' In Heavy Traffic" and followed by PIR-3604 by Lou Rawls, "Groovy People" -PIR-3609 (preceded by PIR-3608 by Bunny Sigler, "Somebody Loves You" and followed by PIR-3610 by O'Jays, "Darling Darling Baby") -PIR-3612 (preceded by PIR-3611 by Dexter Wansel, "Together Once Again" and followed by PIR-3613 by Billy Paul, "How Good Is Your Game" -PIR-3617; PIR-3618; PIR-3619; PIR-3620 (precede by PIR -3616 by Dexter Wansel, "Disco lights" and followed by PIR-3621 by Billy Paul, "Let Em In") -PIR-3660 (preceded by PIR-3659 by Edwin Birdsong, "Kunta Dance" and followed by PIR-3661 by Futures, "Party Time Man" -PIR-3667 (precede by PIR-3666 by Jean Carne, "There's A Shortage Of Good Men" and followed by PIR-3668 by MFSB, "Dance With Me Tonight") -PIR-3687; PIR-3688 (preceded by PIR-3686 by Lou Rawls, "Let Me Be Good To You" and followed by PIR-3689 by Intruders, "I'll Allways Love My Mama", both 12'') Some of you knows what are these singles? Or if it's simply a numeration wrong? I got some spanish PIR singles that don't appears in this list but I knows in the US and in the UK appeared as TSOP realises (People's Choice or Archie Bell & The Drells) and also under the Gamble records logo (Intruders). Hi Manny! I think that discography is taken from the book "Philadelphia International Records - A Discography", compiled by Jean Lacomme and Gary Pelley in France in 1997. Those singles that you mention are missing also in that discography. Best regards Heikki |
