Just received an email from Kat Schaffner that after 44 yrs. the group is finally going to receive a gold record (for Please Mr. Postman) and she is so excited and happy...sometime in November. I'll email her back for more details. |

What????? I thought they already had one for this and others!!! My Goodness, it is about time! Unfortunately Georgeanna Tillman, does not get to participate in this joyous occasion, but hopefully her family will. A darned shame acts such as this one and many others don't get that recognition while they are here and when they are on top! Congrats to them! |

Congratulations, all the Marvelettes. It's about time you were honoured correctly for all of your achievements at Motown - but better late than never, I suppose. Well done too to the guys at Universal whom I am guessing have put the Marvelettes forward for this long overdue award. |

I wonder why the company wouldn't have given them a gold record for their hit at the time. The Miracles got one for "Shop Around". Maybe if they had given them one it would've meant saying you had a million seller and then they would have to pay the royalties for a million. |

Wow! I'm glad for them but at the same time I can't help but wonder why in God's name it took so long. Good job Universal but judging from the RIAA certifications from the 60s and 70s you still have a long way to go. |

Motown was not a member of the RIAA in the 60's.They did on occasion give the artists a Gold spray painted record. Mary Wells had 4 spray painted 45's and 4 "Most Valuable Artist" awards which were in a beautiful gold frame. She always said she would have preferred the money. |

Hello Kat, I was more than "HAPPY" hearing the wonderful good news from you about The Marvelettes finally "At Last", recieving their "GOLD" record for "Please Mr. Postman". About 'DAMM' time. If we all had to wait another forty-three 'DAMM' years we all might be too old if still "ALIVE" to see this very special day happen or appreciate it. Thank goodness four original members are still living to see this dream come true and finally receiving this notable flower of accomplishnment. All in one year and same year, inducted into The Vocal Group Hall Of Fame, receiving a gold record and a book written for the first time on The Marvelettes. They say good things come in three's. I'll see you in Inkster on Novemeber 23rd to support and witness original members historically receive that gold record. When The Vocal Group Hall Of Fame finally release an induction date, I'll attend and see you historically honored there as well. Looks like another exclusive interview will be featured on The Marvelettes in In The Basement soul music magazine again along with some more radio interviews.I'll give you a call"Congratulations". |
