Diana at Farewll show. I like this album--Diana is "on" as are Mary(really letting lose) and Cindy and we have Marvin, Claudette(with an apparent little dig from Diana) etc What do others think?Mary had 2 solos and Cindy sort of one--was this tyical? Did Mary and Cindy both have solos on Talk of Town? |

I like this album a lot as well. I received it for an Xmas present when I was about 9 years old. At the time, I was thrilled to death, and played it non-stop. As an adult, I still love the album. But for a farewell performance, having only nine hits is a bit stingy. Plus a whole side of LET THE SUNSHINE IN is a bit much. But as a performance, I think it completes the arc started by the Copa and continued by the Talk Of The Town lps. As far as I can tell, Mary sang CAN'T TAKE MY EYES OFF YOU for quite a while. She was still singing it as late as 1973. I don't know of any Cindy leads while Diana was in the group. And neither Mary or Cindy have any leads on the Talk Of The Town album. At one point, Deke Richards, the producer, was going to post the story of how the album was put together. But he hasn't gotten around to it yet. |

You can also hear Diana "on top" on FALLING IN LOVE WITH LOVE......one of the few times Miss Ross does "back-up" for Mary/Cindy during these last few years of DRATS. |

Cindy is not "lead" on the track, Mary is....but Cindy is quite prominent.....like her microphone has been "turned up"....and then you can barely hear Diana singing soprano towards the end of the number. Would love to have been there to see just where they were all standing?, LOL! |

FAREWELL did make it to cd. But it was released under the title CAPTURED LIVE ON STAGE. I thought Cindy might be on FALLING IN LOVE WITH LOVE, but I was never sure. I imagine that maybe Mary and Diana switched mikes for these numbers. On FAREWELL, after CAN'T TAKE MY EYES OFF YOU, Diana playfully says to Mary "Get back to your microphone." When they sang it on THE HOLLYWOOD PALACE tv show, they each stood on diffrent elevations on a set. Mary at the top, Cindy in the middle, and Diana on the bottom. |

When I saw Diana, Mary, & Cindy as Diana Ross & the Supremes in Orlando, FL, April 3, 1969, Diana was on the right, Mary in middle, Cindy left and that's from the audience view. They didn't change positions when singing this song, but it seems Diana kinda moved over and shared Mary's mike (which was on a stand) as she sang the back ups with Cindy. Cindy did no solo. Falling In Love...was Mary's only solo. By the way, the gowns they wore were the ones Mary, Cindy, & Jean wore for their first lp, Right On. These gowns were worn by Diana & group on a Hollywood Palace performance. |

Well Mary told me that Cindy is singing part of Lead Falling In With Love(On The Farewell Album) .I too thought it was just Mary thinking she had just falling the trap of kinda mimicing Cindys voice for a good blend .But Mary said it was partly Cindy singing .Shawn |

To add about the song "Falling In Love With Love" Cindy is actually carrying the background of the song by herself at a point, while Diana & Mary are harmonzing the lead. It was the same thing Florence did on the original recording on the The Supremes sing Rodgers & Hart. Another example of this was with the O'Jays, when Eddie & Walter would trade off and sing together live, the other guy (Powell- forgot his first name would carry the background). Handsome |

I think DRIVINGWHEEL has it right when he said: "Cindy is not "lead" on the track, Mary is....but Cindy is quite prominent.....like her microphone has been "turned up"....and then you can barely hear Diana singing soprano towards the end of the number." Remember that it was Mary who did the lead on the version of "Falling In Love With Love" on the "Supremes Sing Rodgers & Hart" LP..... |
