She had such a pretty voice. I loved the singles she did with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes featuring Teddy Pendergrass (long title!!). I hope that We can be Together soon and I just now forgot the name of the other one!!! MAN!!! Brain fart!!! Anyway, does anyone know if she ever made any recordings by herself, and what is she doing now? |

Looks like Summer is coming to a close. I get so depressed when the weather gets cooler, the kids go back to school and the sun goes down sooner! WAH!!!!! |

Hi Jr, Everything's cool & I'm not looking forward to all of those kids on the train in less than as month. Man, where did the summer go??? By the way, Tonight's The Night is on the Blue LP by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes LP on Source/MCA records. That LP also includes the "famous" uncensored version of I Should Be Your Lover. The line that was censored was Harold rapping: "If you can keep him off your mind, then I'll keep him off your a**". For some strange reason, in 1980 the radio wouldn't play that version. When you hear the TV & Radio these days, that line is mighty tame in comparison. |

Yeah that's true...I remember being back east and the little rug rats would fill the trains up, take all of the seats and get in everyone's way..out here on the west coast, the high schoolers clog up the freeway..most of them shouldn't even have a license! (I just LOVE kids...don't I??) Wow..I NEVER heard that song by them! I have to look it up! That line does sound rather tame by today's standards!!! Oh excuse me...TODAY THERE ARE NO STANDARDS!!! LOL!!! |

Hello Submarine to all! Sharon Paige, had also some great songs with Harold Melvin's ABC years that i likes equally as the ones in the PIR period. Of course, my favorite is the one where she sang solo, "Searching For A Love". But the ABC "Reaching For The World" album includes a few very goods as "He Loves You And I Do Too" and "Why Do You Love Me After You Leave Me" (this second I'm not sure the title). Also appears his voice in the crescend ballad "Stay Together", lead by Harold. Much after I find a selection with another Sharon's voice leading gem: "If You're Looking For Somebody To Love Me" (appart from the disco-falvoured "Tonight Is The Night", too much monotonous for my taste). It's rare that a fine voice like Sharon Paige don't got solo discography. In the soul encyclopedias appears as "a Harold Melvin's protege female vocalist". Peace & Soul Food |

Jrlo: Yes, it sort of seems that way doesn't it? Manny: hey my musical brother!! Yes, He Loves You, I Do Too, Stay Together & After You Love Me, Why Do You Leave Me were absolutely gorgeous ballads. After You Love Me reminds me of I Hope That We Can Be Together. It sounds like Part 2. I would have loved to hear more from Sharon!! |

Juice my man , whoa, I just finished burning that song from vinyl to CD and I need a little clarification about the censored line. The LP that I have has Harold saying...you know baby sometimes you look better going that you do coming......You got a body by Fisher but a mind by Mattel.....but I cant remember hearing the line you just quoted ...did they edit that from the album or did Harold release a different version on another album ? I am perplexed my brother.......... |

Hey Kdub, That line is on the Blue Album. It's the line just before they go into the opening verse (chorus, as it were). If you have the LP, listen for it. The 45 was edited, the LP contained the line. Just listen for "If you can keep him off your mind...." Like the commercial says: "It's In There". |

Hello again, Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose! Hey, musical twin-brother Juice! (Smile!) I don't knows what are the LP's that features Sharon Paige. I only knows (and got): -To Be True (only a song, "Hope That We Can Be Together Soon") -Wake Up Everybody (two songs, one as solo vocalist) -Reaching For The World (I believe appears in four songs as it seems she also sang in "Sandman" appart from the other three i refered) -Finally i got a selection of hits with some of their songs of "The Blue Album" (where i believe belongs "If You're Looking For Somebody To Love" and "Tonight Is The Night") I got the previous PIR albums and another ABC album ("Now Is The Time") where she don't appears. I knows The Blue Notes have some other albums in Philly World and ABC ("All Things Happens In Time") but ignores if features Sharon Paige. Perhaps the Intruder's cover that Tony Russy refered belongs to this album (?). I have heard today "I Should Be Your Love" (also included in the Success Records CD selection) with atention but can't apreciate the lyrics clearly. BTW, I likes more the original by O'Jays in the "soulful quality" aspect. Peace & Soul Food |

Hi brother Manny, The last LP that I have when Sharon Paige was featured was The Blue Album. After that, I pretty much lost touch with their music. Kdub: Let me know if you have the unedited version. I'll check to see if I have it on a file or something. I'll tell you, back in '80 you just didn't hear lines like that in songs. Aside from the fact that it was a great song, that line immediately endeared it to me & my friends. We were pretty cool 20 year-olds |

Juice, I got up at 5:00 this morning put on the Blue Album and played it twice...the line is not there. Now I'm ticked. This is the original vinyl that I bought circa 1979/80 .....maybe it was edited for release in the Midwest....such things have been known to happen in the so called Bible Belt......but this is Chicago man.....its still a beautiful record and I am irritated. Thanks for the info though.... Memo to Manny, you should be able to hear it clearly because its in the spoken word intro to the song. On my record it begins, with Harold saying "Here we are, all sad and confused, instead of bringing me good news, you always bring me the blues...... yada, yada, the part that Juice mentioned was not on my vinyl copy....oh well....While going through my LPs' I found the albums that you mentioned and I was surprised about one thing....The Blue Notes changed members about as often as they changed their wardrobe ? Juice : a question for you or anyone who can answer including Mr. Eli.....if we include Ali Woodson, how many different Blue Notes were there ????????? Since we seem to hold monthly assessments of the many Tempts (23/24 ?), thought this might be a nice touch to this thread.......and I think we should include Sharon....LOL Kdubya (Message edited by Paladin on August 27, 2004) |

What's up Kdub? I'll check through a few files & my LP. It's quite possible that when the LP was released that they might have taken some flack & pulled the LP & re-issued an edited version. I have to find a copy of it & when I do, I'll see to it that youhear that version. As far as the numberof Blue Notes, you'll have to go back to 1954 & count from there. The Blue Notes that we all knew & loved, were the second or third incarnation of the group. |

Dam thats something I didn't know. They probably got the Tempts and a lot of other groups beat....hands down. The new radio station in Chicago (106.3) is playing all Motown songs today and they are playing a lot of tracks by Jermaine,Stevie, Switch, Jacksons, Supremes, Tops, Tempts etc...... and although I never really paid much attention to this ...I think that of all the Motown groups the "Supremes" are the ones who get the least air play on modern urban radio. How are they treated in your neck of the woods ? I heard Where Did Our Love Go? this morning and was flat out surprised. Sorry I digressed Juice, I really loved Harold Melvin and The Bluenotes and I don't think they ever receieved enough credit, back in the day we always thought of Harold as The "Otis" of the group when he fact he was a pretty decent songwriter. They always presented themselves as being a class act and they certainly gave me my moneys worth in their live performances both before and after Teddy. In fact they were remarkably like the Dells......... Kdubya |

If you list Bluenotes we will be here forever. There are 2 and possible one more group performing under the name. You have Harold Melvin's Bluenotes with Sharon Paige whom is managed by Harold's wife. You have Lloyd Parks, Bernie Wilson, And the guy Aiken with a lead singer as the Legendary Bluenotes and at times Bernie Wilson has a falling out with them and finds people to work with him. So that is kinda crazy. Harold Melvin's Bluenotes are the best group. Here are some people and voices of the current group and some names I recall seeing and hearing after Teddy left... Donnell Gilespie Rufus Thorne Dwight Johnson (Rest In Peace) Tony Brooks John...(current member of Harold Melvins Bluenotes) Gil Saunders David Ebo |

Thanks Treble Clef, as ususal I am amazed by the scope of knowledge found here on SDF.....as I have posted under the Blue Note thread and above , I have seen the touring version with Sharon Paige and they are very good indeed, they have the Blue Note "Flair" and vocals down pat. They get a lot of sound out of four guys and Sharon and they have that old school showmanship...suave would be appropriate ......thanks for taking the time to educate a brother.... Kdub |
