Yesterday, Sunday I had the esteemed pleasure of joining my dear friend Howard Tate through a journey of pure, unadulterated, uncut soul at it's best, at the Long Park festival in Lancaster Pa. His eight picce band was second to none ,providing him with authentic soul/blues drenched arrangements that complimented him like white on rice and cornbread and greens. He is the consumate soul man and quite possibly the last of the great ones. Also on hand to soak up the soul and hang with us, was Major Harris, to whom Howard had offered the opening spot on his upcoming European tour. Here are some pictures from the show.

Thank you, Eli! I saw Howard perform in 1966 on a big R&B bill. I ALWAYS loved his records-- "Ain't Nobody Home", "Look At Granny Run Run", etc. |

Nice pics, Bobby ! I had the pleasure to see Howard Tate in July, at the Cognac Blues Festival, and he was fantastic ! One of the best concert of this year, with George Clinton. And he did "I'm a burglar", one of my favorite ! |

I saw Howard in the Netherlands last year and he was great! My good buddy Scott Peterson is the tenor sax player in his band. Scott is a Detroiter, now living in the Bay area. Also, my buddy Mike Shermer is the guitarist. Like you said sis, a good band. -RJ |

I've been to the Cognac Festival twice, and as beautiful as it is there, I like small clubs, Sis - that's where I saw Howard last year. A tiny club in London, and it was sensational! He had his full band squashed onto the stage and walked through the crowd singing his heart out. My favourite HT song "I Learned It All The Hard Way" was pure church! And then Jerry Ragovoy came on stage and played piano while Howard sang "Get It While You Can". No band, just the two of them. What a great night - don't miss him if he's playing anywhere near you... |

Great pics, Bobby! I have a tape of an interview that Howard did with Colin Dilnot. Haven't listened to it in a while, but I'll have to play it as those pics put me in the mood. There are quite a few of Howard's songs on that tape as well as the interview. God bless both Howard and Major...two guys with lotsa SOUL! Best, Mark |

I caught Howard's London show (to showcase his new album release) last year. He is indeed still a great live performer. He came out into the club after the show and I got to talk with him (& Jerry Ragavoy -- an all time hero of mine). Both guys chatted for quite a while about their past exploits, the whole night was a soul fans dream come true. |

Great pics Eli! Now we're talkin'! Howard Tate is one of my favs! I like 'Ain't Nobody Home', 'Look At Granny Run, Run', etc but my favorite is 'Stop'. One of the all-time best intros in Soul music IMO and when Howard gets to wailin' it's heaven! I definitely need some more of his material in my collection. I'm not familiar with any of HT's new stuff nor have I had the privilege of seeing him live. He must still sound excellent because everyone always raves about his current live show. |
