Mel -

Joe L (Joe L Carter) had 2 45s on Hi in 1971:

Please Mr Foreman/As The Years Go Passing By (2195)
I Can't Stand It/Let Me Know (2203)
They were recorded at Royal in Memphis, produced by Willie Mitchell. PMF is a re-recording of his best known song, a fine blues:

"Please mister foreman, slow down that assembly line
I don't mind working but I do mind dying"

He also had these 45s:

Soul Before News/Just To Let You Know (BJ 1001)
Don't Cry Baby/My Life Story (Audrey 112)
It's Love Baby (24 Hours A Day)/Norma's Blues (inst) (Valtone 103, Boss 103)
Please Mr Foreman/(I'm Not Gonna Be) Worried (Clissac 3001)

He appeared at the 1973 Ann Arbor Blues Festival, backed by the Partymakers Incorporated - another version of PMF was issued by Schoolkids Records (US) and Sequel (UK).

Apparently BJ (or B&J?) was from Pennsylvania? Can you post details of his Diamond Jim recordings? Anyone got any biographical details on him?

I don't think Joe L had a 45 on the Diamond Jim label, or any other recordings to what's been lised above.
Maybe Mel is mixing him up with Mr. Bo or Freddie Pride?

There is also a Milwaukee-based release by a Joe L as:

Joe L. & the Serenaders "Funky Vliet Street/Soul Strut" (Sympathy 33193)
