Hi, Everyone, I keep hearing this gorgeous love song on a local radio station...But, they never say the name of the song or who the artist is...It has a speaking part that says: the touch of your lips, something, something...It is all these things that make you mine...The voice is kind of deep & really smooth...Any guesses on who/what song this could be? It also sounds like it was recorded in the 50s/60s--a doo wop love song?

Why is it when you don't know the name of a song, they never tell you & when you do know it, they always tell you? They'll say it was Aretha Franklin, but not someone like Jim Croce...

My guess would be "All These Things," by Art Neville (of the Neville Brothers). I have the song on a Neville Brothers' compilation, "Treacherous," and that sounds like what you're describing.
You might want to go to the All Music Guide Web site, www.allmusic.com, and use its search functions. There are more than 50 versions of a song with that title, but I'm betting I got it right. Good luck in your search.

Not only did Art do a version, Vic, but his brother Aaron also recorded the song. I have both versions on a now hard-to-get double CD from Charly, "The History of the Neville Brothers" (consisting of solo Art and Aaron material and quite a few Meters songs as well).

The story doesn't end there: a pop/rock act from the same area (Louisiana) named the Uniques remade the song around '66-'67 and had a Hot 100 chart hit on it. Fast-forward a few years, and the lead singer of the Uniques, Joe Stampley, is enjoying success as a country singer. He recorded a solo version of the tune for his then-label, Dot, but it wasn't released until after he switched labels to Epic. The result was his third number one country hit (in 1976).

Best,

Mark
