Hi this is Kev-Lo and once again I pay tribute to a great 60's soul act
DON JULIAN AND THE LARKS were from South Los Angeles.Don was taught to play the piano by the legendary Joe Liggins and he taught himself how to play guitar.Don began his music in the 50's and got with the legendary John Dolpin who had the Money Records label. And Don Julian began to record for that label. In 1964 Don Julian and the Larks had the hit that started it off. THE JERK which broke in LA in October of 64 and hit #7 nationally in January of 65.The Jerk was followed by other hits such as KEEP ON JERKING,DO THE JERK,JERKIN USA,SOUL JERK,HEAVENLY FATHER,and MICKEY'S EAST COAST JERK.Don was inspired by Curtis Mayfield. In 1967 he had a soulful jam called SAD,SAD BOY and another jam called COME BACK BABY.And in 1971 they did a jam called I WANT YOU BACK.The Larks was one of the finest groups that had people all over jumping. And they definitely rocked the boogaloo era.Although Don Julian is no longer with us let's not forget the great legacy he set and the impact he made on classic soul.

Let's not forget that Don Julien's Larks formerly had had enjoyed a long career as The Meadowlarks, mostly on Dootone Records.

And John Dolphin also was the famous owner of Dolphin's of Hollywood Record shop, which was in the Centre of L.A.'s music happnin' spot on Vernon & Central. The other great music store was Flash Records.

Johnny Otis was by far one of the great West Coast soul legends all the way from the late forties and he is still doing things in the biz.

He started out Little Esther Phillips and a host of soul legends as well as his own Johnny Otis show and his big hit Willie and the Hand Jive.
