SOULFUL DETROIT (The City) was well represented during yesterdays' PBS Disco Spectacular special! The supporting singers for the PBS Disco show, was none other than DETROITS' OWN "LADEEZ & GENTS OF DETROIT"!!! I hesitate to call them a "BACKGROUND" group, as they were simply terrific & have a musical pedigree of their own. They sang the background for nearly 20 acts & handled all of the songs magnificently. Over the course of ONE DAY, they had to learn the songs for nearly 20 acts & about 50 songs!!! These songs vocal keys ran the gamut & the tempos were varied. They did yeoman work, under a tight & constantly changing schedule.Regardless of the changes in scheduling & all else, Ladeez & Gents Of Detroit were more than equal to the task!! They were total professionals & were very accessible to all fans. They are extremely friendly, warm & from a male standpoint, DAMN!!! Those ladies are sure 'nuff easy on the eyes They definitely are rooted in Detroit soul & I'm sure that you'll know them by name. The Gents are as follows: Ralph Mitchell, who you all know from The Floaters, with whom he still sings with to this day. Rick Littleton, who sings with The Prolifics. The Ladeez who are a unit of their own are: Diane Mathis (The Platters) Dula Todd Benny Lawrence Brothers, as you will see from the photos, these ladies look marvelous!!! What's really wonderful about these ladies is that, their personalities are just as wonderful as they look. We all found them to be very warm & friendly, with no traces of conceit. I'll tell you this, if I wasn't such an innocent person, I would've tried to whisk them away & get married. Yes, I'm in love!!! SO WHAT!! I'm telling you, these ladies were just very classy, friendly & Detroit, I'm telling you, every lady that I've met from Detroit has that down home sweet way about them! After meeting these ladies, I'm seriously considering getting myself a parka & some snowboots & moving to Detroit!! Well, at the very least, I'll settle for one of those pretty smiles All kidding aside, the LADEEZ were wonderful & combined with The GENTS, they did one hell of a job on the show. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the manager of the girls, Ms Gisele "Gee" Caver. Let me tell you about Gisele. I found Gisele to be just as sweet as her Ladeez. Very friendly, very down to earth & very professional. She is definitely very attentive & caring for her Ladeez & they have a great camraderie & closeness & her concern for her Girls is heart warming. She & The Ladeez & Gents are about some serious business & Ms Gisele Caver has put together a winning hand with her LADEEZ. Folks, if you don't know about them, check them out. You won't be disappointed, I sure wasn't & I'm ready to claim them for New York You can check out Ms. Gisele Caver at www.soundsinthekeyofgee.com Vonnie will have a very interesting story about one the Ladeez & her musical history. I'll tell you that her story is very enlightening & will shine a little light on one of Detroits' 60s Soul groups. The LADEEZ & GENTS OF DETROIT......DETROIT, they did you PROUD!!! Hi Re Re, I taped the show & I can only say that The Ladeez & Gents Of Detroit were superb. Wait until you see the show & hear their backgrounds. Especially with Leo Sayer on You Make Me Feel Like Dancing & When I Need You. They sounded superb & Leo gave them big time props in front of the audience. They sounded great backing Bonnie on Heaven Must Have Sent You. Bonnie had an interplay going on with them that was pure energy. They did a magnificent job & ALL of them are cool as hell!! Ralph is a cool brother & Rick is as well. I definitely look forward to hearing them again. And I definitely look forward to the Ladeez returning to New York. When they do, Juice will be in the house for sure |
