Hello All:

Well the SD45CC-Motown Chapter met last night for its 6th time and has officially become a permanent part of the history of D-Town music.

Hot tunes, cold beers, great conversation and a special treat this time. No not a gathering of more Detroit & Motown luminaries and a couple of TV stars from Scotland like last month.

Just a steady stream of classic cars from the 30s, 40s 50s 60s & 70s cruising by down below on Woodward Ave. The Woodward Ave Dream Cruise is this Saturday, the Biggest & Best bar none Classic car show in the world. 1.5 million people and about 70,000 classic cars on a 15 mile or so stretch of Woodward Ave. So while Detroit was warming up and flexing its Motor Muscle we where upstairs in the WAB flexing our Musical Muscle.

Let me tell you there was a big work out last night!!! All of the original members where in attendance, the Magnificent 7 & the Ghost gathered to play tunes, converse, eat and drink and have once again a really great time.

The founding members of SD45CC-Motown Chapter:
Joe Moorehouse
Sideburn Slim
Dana
Gary
Brian T
Leo B
Soulaholic
& The Ghost via phone Ralph T who has called and been part of all of the shindigs! Ralph when that court order gets lifted in Detroit we are going to have one heck of a party for you when you can legally come into to town! LOL

We also had a visit by Detroits own Spyder Turner who dropped into hear a few tunes spread the word about his show at the cruise this Saturday NOT TO BE MISSED!!

There was some serious digging in the record boxes last night. It seemed that everyone decided to do some digging for some great D-Town sounds, rare and early style soul was also on the agenda.

We heard the Distants
New Holidays
Lawrence Brown
Pirates
Jimmy Norman
Jimmy Soul
Soul Stirrers
Bobby Gregg
Samson & Delilah
J.J. Barnes on Mickays Records
The original 5 Blind Boys
Cozy Cole
Calvin Williams
Johnny Honeycutt
Jimmy Smith
Monitors
Tim Tam
Robert Parker
Lenny Dee
Junior Walker
The 5 Royals
Skyliners
Brenda Holloway
Santos & Johnny
Ty Hunter
Miracles
Intruders
Cascades
Lloyd Price
Marveliers
Hollywood Flames
Alvin Cash & the Registers
Du Droppers
Dee Williams
Nathaniel Mayer & the Fabulous Twilights
Jimmy Soul Clark
Googie Rene Combo
Big Bubbles and the Soul Brothers
Unifics
Escorts
Counts
Eddie Holman
Spyder Turner
Billy Stewart
Margie Hendrix
Heck even some Mitch Ryder and Sammy Davis Junior singing Hello Detroit got played last night
Plus many many more!!

A little guessing of what tune was what was done, a lot of info and stories about tunes was shared and a few records traded hands. And yes we do talk about all of you on the SD forum and if you want to hear what we have to say about you, you will just have to come on down and join us one of these days.

Sideburn Slim gave us the behinfd the scene info on how he put together his great story on Darrell Banks!!

We have decided that in September we are going to have a SD45CC-Motown Chapter picnic in the middle of the month on a weekend afternoon. A family style event, food, tunes, good conversation and a chance to say hello to those names we chat with and put a face to them. If any out of town members that are within driving distance Chicago, Cleveland, and Windsor, I know we have members their. Come in on Friday and stay until Sunday morning and I guarantee we will show you a great time. Record hunting, a club or two that plays the music we like and a 45 shindig at a picnic. What could be better????

We also have come to the conclusion that we want to do a completely Philly Style shindig in the up and coming months. If only we could find some one who would know a little bit about that Philly scene?????? You know some one who may have been there and done that type of thing sort of person, you know has stories took picture lived it and such. I wonder if there may be a person or two, who may just fit that requirement on the forum???
And yes Manny, I promise I will bring by laptop and hook you up live during that event!!!!! So you can type away with the questions right along side of us here in Detroit!

If any SD members know of such a type please forward their names to us!!

On to other matters, god I feel like the secretary with the meeting agenda.

We are looking to have others join us only once a month. I would like to personally invite; Dennis Coffey, Millie, Ed Wolfram, Ron Murphy, Sis Detroit, Clay Mc, Goat, and any and all local Detroiters to enjoy a few hours out of the 720 we have every month and have a good time with people who enjoy what you enjoy.

Well I guess I have said enough for now! I will post some photos from last night soon.

Also I would like to hear some feedback on the soul cds we where discussing last night wink wink!!

Till that time of the month again, remember what the old prospector always sez:

Thars gold in them thar Detroit Vinyl Mines only the fools have left not the gold!!!!!!!!! lol

PS thanks to the NS boys for Keeping the Faith Alive.

Well that's all the photo's for now!!

Still looking for the rest of the local D-Town SD members to join us. Plus we still need to find anybody who may know a little about Philly to come into town for a night ????

And the SD45CC-Motown Chapter Picnic is still in the works for September.

Also I want to take the SD45CC over to the Isle's when I come in November?????

Thanks to all the Original's and the Ghost for being part of a truly great time!!

Hope you liked the CD's (90 plus Tunes or more or classic soul)

Oh, don't worry...I have PLENTY of records here!

Deciding which ones to bring when I do come up...that's the tricky part!! But I definitely have the vinyl here.

Best,

Mark
