Have you ever liked a song, and never knew who recorded it? I never purchased it, because my girlfried had it, and we would listen to eachothers music...I really wished I had purchased my own favorites.
Does anyone know who recorded these songs?
A Toast To You
Don't It Make You Feel Kinda Bad
My Life Is So Blue
...and this was an old recording I remember from the late 50's or very early 60's~
Just The Way You Look Tonight
I know it's been recorded many times, but it was very popular back then...it was more R&B (they didn't say soul back then).

Hi Medusa - I believe that the other two are Chicago records from 1964-65:

"Don't It Make You Feel Kinda Bad" is actually "Feel Kinda Bad"- by The Radiants (from Chicago). It was on Chess records. "Don't it make you feel kinda bad" was the chorus portion.

"My life is so blue" might be from "So Blue Without You" by Joe Murphy from 1964 on a little VJ subsidiary. He was backed by the Dells. "My life is so blue....without you" is the chorus in that song.

Hey, it might be :

"Since I lost You" by the Temptations, it contains the refrain : My life is so blue, so blue
baby baby, since I lost you.......

Robb K you're on point about the Radiants song.

Toast To You may in actuality be : "Toast To The Fool" by the Dramatics......hope this helps....

"Since I Lost You" was on a single by Jimmy Ruffin in early1964. It made the radio in Chicago. I'm not sure if it was released before The Temptations' album version.

Maybe "Since I Lost You" is a better bet, as "So Blue Without You" by Joe Murphy wasn't played on the radio in many cities. And, when it was, it wasn't played for very long.

I'm doing fine now. Glad you're back. Don't know why but I was compiling a couple of CD's ....one with Rick James, James Brown & Parliment...The other with Dells/Dramatics and Bloodstone and I thought of you.........I realize that you have tongue in cheek my beauty, but I would hate for SDF to think that I was a ....ahem....playsnizzle....I must go now and hum the words to this sacred tune.......I dont want to be a Player no more.........

Robb K you're right .....I have the Ruffin tune as well....I just got Tempts on the brain, it was the first thing that popped into my head....Norman Whitfields songs were covered by a whole slew of artists on the "Soul" label at Motown, Jimmy, Gladys,Marvin, later on Undisputed Truth etc.......I used to love comparing Gladys and the Pips versions of his songs to the Tempts...those were great days........

The Temptations' "Since I Lost You" was the b-side of "Don't Let The Joneses Get You Down" and was released on May 1, 1969. The "Puzzle People" LP was released in September.

There's yet another version of "Since I Lost You" that has gotten Northern soul spins. It's by Clay Hunt on Kapp.

Best,

Mark
