Hi this is Kev-Lo well here I go Again With another soul legend to talk about.

DON COVAY not only was a great singer but he was also a great producer as well.He produced all of Aretha Franklin's great songs.Don Covay been singing since the mid 60's.He did a boogaloo dance cut in 1965 called THE BOOMERANG on Atlantic records. He also had other cuts such as IT's BETTER TO HAVE AND DON'T NEED THAN TO NEED AND DON'T HAVE IT,SEESAW,and in 1973 he did a adultry song called I WAS CHECKING IN AND SHE WAS CHECKING OUT.YES Don Covay was definitely a true soul legeng that gave us some great soul music in the 60's and 70's.

Hello Submarine to all!

Hi, Kev-lo,
What's up, soul brother?

I got a UK "Black Music & Jazz Rewiew" from around 1980 where appears a good article entitled "Don Covay. The architect of new soul". He belongs to Soul Clan with Solomon Burke, Artur Conley and Joe Tex. This is as a "pedigree" for a real formely classic soul singer and in addition he evolutioned to some more sophisticated soul music. As a songwriter I got also some Dee Dee Sharp track produced by him at PIR and also I knows he recorded at Cameo-Parkway and also in PIR (one album). I don't knows if he is a native philadelphian, ?.

I think that, curiously, all the members of Soul Clan were essentials.

Peace!

Kev, Don wrote a few things for Aretha including
"Chain of Fools" but he was never her producer.

He rarely produced in the sixties - not even his
own stuff.

Kev
Don also wrote See Saw (originally a hit for him I think before Aretha did it) with Steve Cropper. Can't think of any other hits..unless there was an album track/Bside or two.
