Good Morning All, I just want to say how much I used to love this group and Chaka. They virtually busted on to the scene in 1973 didn't they. One of my all time favorite songs = "Please Pardon Me (You Remind Me Of A Friend Od Mine)." My God! Please rate Rufus and Chaka - for it has been thirty years since they graced us with their presence. IMO - Chaka had/has a strong and recgonizable voice indeed - and she can holler. There actually is and has been no others like them. Three cheers for Rufus & Chaka. Everyone has a website these days. LOL! What did we all do before the Net and what will we do w/o it? http://www.discomuseum.com/Ruf us.html http://www.chakakhan.com/ |

Rufusized is one of my "Island" albums. Thirty years later it still sounds fresh and above all, Funky! Another thing about this band I will never forget was a show they played in the early 80's in Riverfront Stadium. Due to a tech problem the feeds to the mains went out, but the band kept on playing. All you could hear through out the entire stadium were two things. The drums and that unique voice that is Chaka Khan. |

Go-Go, I use to see Rufus & Chaka all the time in The Windy before hit it big. They use to play up on the northside near uptown, rodgers park and old town, well it's all the same area. I read her book Through The Fire, and I can dig it dig where she's coming from. Before I moved to the southside I use to see her all the time. I was upset with they broke up. They we're my #1 band Go-Go, my #1 favorite band. Don Chi |

Hello Submarine! "Rufusized", "You Got The Love" and, specially "Dance With Me" (b/w "Have A Good Thing") with the great rock-funk bass line at the last part, are my favorites. I prefer the more funk sound by Rufus than the material by Chacka as a solo act. I read that The O'Jays made a US tour of live performances in 1984, their 25th anniversary, and were backed by Rufus and the late Johnny "Guitar" Watson. Peace & Soul Food! |

Don, since I reside in Chi-town, it was no small feat to see this group on a regular basis. They were my favorite band. I was quite disheartened when they broke up. They had a special flavor and certainly didn't sound like traditional Chicago artists. They brought the funk big time. Chaka was a product of the Chicago mean streets and she brought that attitude with her not only in her vocals but her stage performance as well. Sexy as all get out this woman could sang. David Hawk Wolinski, Tony Maiden, Bobby Watson and Dre Fischer added serious songwritng and musical ability. One of the best soulfunk groups ever. Big props to them ..........O Wonder B thanks for the photos but that pic of Chaka aint funny my man its sexy as.....sexy is......... Kdubya |

Kdubya I agree that pic is sexxxxxxxxxxy but I had already tackled her looks with the previous pic so... LOL Uptight that laserdisc is not a 12" but an 8" laserdisc with the songslist as follows : I feel for you;Tell me something good;Through the fire... On the other hand there was a 12" laserdisc later issued with more songs (but stuff from the previous is not on that one so you gotta have both!)The title of that one was "This is my night" And let's not forget the Live at The Rowy from 1981 only released in Japan but which has since been reissued on DVD in the UK with the Brecker Bros, Hamish Stuart from AWB and other luminaries in the band including Leon Pendarvis. Check it here : http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000092Q7B/qid=1092860106/sr=2-3/ref=sr_2_11_3/202-6566989-3959059 (it's been renamed Signature but it IS that 1981 Roxy Concert) GO_GET_GONE_GIRL thanks for the comment non the pics. I have many more! LOL Doin her thing live Showing her tonsils! Whatcha Gonna Do For Me????? Hum... what's your name? Wonder B |

Hey All, In tribute to Sandra who I knew in Germany - let me mention her here. Sandra was from Chicago. My friends and I eventually started skipping school and going/hanging over to her and her husband's house - every chance we got. Mainly - we all were sneaking every time we went there. They lived on the base - over in Germany. Sandra used to entrall us w/stories from her hometown Chicago. Brenda had lived in LA before coming to Germany - so she knew a little bit 'bout the streets. Yet - she was only 14. I lived on the edge of DC at parts 13 & 14 years of age - so I was beginning to learn the streets. LOL! Anyway, Sandra's stories about growing up on the west side of Chicago were somthing else indeed. She told us once how she got in a knife fight whilst she was pregnant. Our ears and eyes were wide open with our imaginations as she would tell her tales. Naturally by now - I've forgot all the other details to the story. But my point is Sandra's stories about growing up in Chicago - and how she lived whilst growing up there - fascinated us. Sandra admitted that she was wild since she had grown up sort of rough on the mean streets of Chicago. She would tell us about the many fights she'd been in. We were 14 and 15 when we knew Sandra and she was but 20. See - being only 20 is what stuck w/me as it pertained to Sandra's stories. Because of her environment - she had to grow up fast in order to survive her surroundings - indeed. I thought - look how much life this girl/woman has already lived. Thru it all though - Sandra was a sweet person. We learned some things from her - and if nothing else - we learned that everyone has their story or stories to tell - indeed. Here ye - hear ye for the varied history of Chicago, IL and what it has meant to generations of people - from all walks of life. (Message edited by gogogirl on August 18, 2004) |

Go-Go, from what I heard in interviews and read in articule that her and her family use to move around alot. I only knew her from the south side from round-, you know? I was really surprised in her good taste in music when she was growing up, like jazz being one of my favorite music and she certainly sings like an instrument. I don't care what nobody says she did a heck of a job of Marvin Gaye's "What Going On" in SITSOM film. I still love her to death including Rufus together as a band. Don |
