Nice job, Adam. You obviously did a lot of leg work to get all that information collected and summarized into an excellent article. Even people who are fairly familiar with the Darrell Banks story can learn a lot from your piece; I know I did.

Yes indeed a excellent story. The one thing that in regards to Banks' murder, it smells fishy and rather odd due to the circumstances. How can one bullet kill a man with one shot striking him in the neck and chest. The witness, and both participants in all stories don't sound right with me. I think the case should be reopened IMO.

Hey Don...not to make light of the tragedy, but maybe it ranks up there with the "pristene bullet" from the JFK assasination, the "phantom punch" from Ali vs. Liston Part 2, Nixon's "secret plan" to end Vietnam, or better yet, the "weapons of mass destruction" that were hidden in Iraq.

You said it right..."odd circumstances" indeed.

Hi Gary, Darrell Banks was a force to be reckoned with. He took over the music industry & music scene like a storm, and many knew it too. Have you heard "Here Comes The Tears" by Darrell yet?

Don...I'm familiar with Darrell's work. You're right, he was an incredible talent and there's no doubt in my mind that his career would have gone ballistic if he had lived. The circumstances of his death are very sad and very senseless. I'm glad David and Lowell's efforts (along with the efforts of all the other SDF members who participated in the memorial project) have paid off.

I think everyone should adopt a legend and help secure their memories....Fans who write letters, and campaign and have petitions signed, can and have made a diferrence..

there's plenty of folks who could

That's a great article Vic. I only wish Darrell Banks life didn't have to end so tragically...(since it took all that), I'm wondering if that female and that policeman are still alive and are they together...just a thought that's all.

Nice Job Adam! What a story with a happy ending. Mr. Banks died a tragic death just like other Detroit musical characters such as:Tony Clarke, Diamond Jim, Mike Hanks, and etc. I believe that Tony Clarke was killed by his wife. I wonder where "The Entertainer" Tony Clarke is buried???

Hi Eric

I got hold of the newspaper article on Tony Clarke.

I tried 2 cemeteries but to no avail; even using his real name.

Don

As you know Darrell recorded many fine songs.

One of those was called "Beautiful Feeling", it was written (co-written?) by Fred Bridges.

When I played the song to him in the car last month it was the first time he had heard Darrell sing it.

Fred said "man, that was the best tune I ever wrote". And Fred wrote some great music.

WOW! Great reporting, great story, especially hearing from Darrell's sister and wife on his life.
Kudos to David and Lowell for raising the money to give this unsung hero of soul music the proper grave and respect due.
Brilliant!!
