Bobby, you wrote one of my favorite Love songs, "Love Wont Let Me Wait". Besides Major Harris, what other vocalist (Male or Female) would you like to hear record this song all over again? This is for everyone~ What song that's already been recorded, that you would like to hear done over again and by whom? |

Good topic Medusa. I'd like to hear Dennis Edwards' 'Don't Look Any Further' like it was originally intended as a duet with Chaka Khan. Dennis tore that one up but can you imagine it as a duet with Chaka? The original is a classic but Siedah Garrett adds absolutely nothing to the song. She just came along for the ride. Chaka would've taken it to a whole new level. |

Medusa, for some reason I can't really think of songs right now. I think I'm trying to think of too many at one time-LOL. But you hit the nail on the head, Gladys Knight would do an awesome job on "Misty Blue" now that I think about it, Dorothy Moore's voice is similar to hers. |

Hi Medusa, Im happy that you like LWLMW. And Medusa...mmmmm...have you ever,,,mmmm...you know... did the wild thing to it?? Something tells me that you may have, capice???#$%^&*) I would have loved to have heard Donnie Hathaway do it, and also Gladys Knight.Roberta Flack also. Also definitely Ron Isely in his For the love of you voice! Ill tell you, on the recent sessions that i did with Hall and Oates, they absolutely did a marvelous job with Love TKO, Usta be my girl, Whatch see is whatcha get, Ill be around(which I played for Phil yesterday)Ooh Child, Iwant you(marvin) and more. There are eighteen songs on the cd, Three originals and fifteen classic remakes!! Plus they weerent afraid to turn up my guitar!(smile) This cd is gonna put them right back on to the top of the charts. BTW, when Vinnie and I were writing LWLMW, we were imagining several people singing that song, including would you believe, Bing Crosby! |

Hi Charise. The H&O cd will be called "Our Kind Of Soul" and it should be dropping in October. BTW, Vinnie and I always had a blast in our early creative sessions Our usual m.o. was a setup of Nutter Butter cookies, Manneschewitz(sp) Creme White Concord wine and a couple of "trees" and we were ready to roll. So during our period of "feeling the vibe" we would always imagine the most outlandish people doing our songs and try to imitate them singing them, and so after a "tree" or two, I started doing those Bing Crosbey "ba ba ba boo" things and blurted out " the time is right, ba ba ba bo", you hold me tight and loves got me high, ba ba ba boo"!! I kid you not. How about Johnny Cash doing Sideshow..yep that too! We both had weird senses of humour, and still do. How about Patsy Cline doing Just dont want to be lonely? BTW.. we actually did have a country version of Sideshow by some obscure hillbilly cat! Funny shiznit, especially after a couple of treeskis!! (Message edited by phillysoulman on August 16, 2004) |

Luther did a nice job on Love Won't Let Me Wait also. Mr. Eli you wrote a really beautiful song. Love won't let me wait is a good example of a song that stands on its own as opposed to a song being defined by the singer and all other singers have to measure up to the previous version. |

I can hardly wait for the release of this cd, I love Hall & Oates and with you in the mix, I know I will LOVE this too. Thanks for the info on it. |

Hi Charise. I am so happy that you "get it" You seem to have a great sense of humour too! Where ya from and whats your sign? BTW..we wouldnt DARE have a writing session without Nutter Butters..before and after the vegetation!! BTW..Sideshow was conceived without any help from the botanist!! Just one of my off the wall nutty idea that somehow worked, although a certain person said to me, hey Bobby, you on LSD or something? who the f**k is gonna buy a record about a darn sideshow?? |

Bobby, did you ever think about Perry Como doing "Love Won't Let Me Wait?" He, himself could have also overdubbed the sensual sounds that Barbara was making. Or for Bing Crosby, instead of moaning and oohing and aahing, he could have been bub-bub-bub-bubbing. |

LWLMW is one of the GREATEST love songs/slow jams ever written, and this to me is ironic, because I've been listening to that song for the past 2 days now (At work, while relaxing, in the shower-no, I did not sing along to it!), and no matter how many times I repeat it on the CD player, I never get tired of listening to it. You just can't beat a great song, excellent production and tight instrumentation from MFSB. But Bing Crosby? I'm having mental episodes right about now, and they're not pretty! I AM SO GLAD THAT WAS JUST A THOUGHT AND NOT REALITY! Major Harris was the perfect choice, and will remain that way forever. Luther put his own signature on the classic, and he is the only other artist of whose version I will only listen to. I actually cringe to hear another remake from any other artist than Major and Luther. Seriously. I cannot, and will not, listen to anybody sing LWLMW other besides Major and Luther. Period. No disrespect to anyone else who attempts to revive the classic for today's airplay AND to Friday's Child for raking in the $$$$$, but after listening to both versions a million times and loving it, I just can't see it being done any other way. Sorry, my story and I'm sticking 2 it! |

Mr. Eli, you r KILLIN me, here in Dayton it was usually "trees", liquid "libations", and some form of chicken (CHURCH'S OR POPEYES)! As far as LWLMW... i'm thinkin somebody with really trashy pipes, BOBBY WOMACK, or JOE COCKER, even JAMES BROWN should do it...and your Bing Crosby idea ain't too far off...after all he did "MY GIRL"! |

soulseeker, Tamia is a beautiful woman and one of the best of the younger singers recording today (even though her material and production sucks) but do you honestly think that she has the innocence to pull off a remake of The Emotions' 'Show Me How'? Sheila Hutchinson was a young girl in her teens when she sang the lyrics "I'm just a young girl, dying to learn the ways of love". Tamia is a grown woman in her 30's with kids! Obviously someone's "Showed Her How" time and time again. Tamia could probably teach me a few things at this point! LOL. |

Rodman, I never said she would match Sheila. Of course not. But I think vocally she could do it. Just from listening to you put a move on my heart. She may be older and been around the block a few times but her voice still has an innocent sounding quality to it. She has the pipes but she doesn't sound like a fully mature singer if that makes any sense. I don't think age really has any thing to do with. Sheila sounds just as innocent on Key to my heart as she does on Show Me How, imo. I would just like to hear Tamia sing it. I think it would be interesting. |

I get your point Soulseeker. Another reason I'm leery of remakes of Classic Soul because of what's passing for production nowadays. Everything has to be made relevant to the Hip-Hop community. It makes me cringe when I think about a remake of 'Show Me How' with record scratching, a drum machine beat and Missy Elliot or Puff Daddy saying "yeah, yeah, this that hot sh*t" all over out! I guess if I did have make a decision based on vocals alone I would choose Tamia as well. Unlike a lot of what's passing for talent today she can actually sing! |

Rodmann, Please don't ever mention Puff Daddy's name in this SOUL forum ever again, LOL! You almost made me choke up my breakfast. And Missy Elliott, God Forbid. And yes Tamia can sing. I'm afraid if she doesn't get the right material and production soon though she's going to fade into oblivion like another talented lady with bad material/production choices, Miss Chante Moore. Yes I do remember Mica Paris version and you're right it went nowhere. Tamia got the pub because of Quincy Jones. Mica had other songs too but I can't think of what they are right now. It would be nice to hear her version again. |

I think I've mentioned this here before but there's an excellent dance song called 'Stretch In Out' that was recorded by a singer named Gayle Adams in 1980. It was a medium sized club hit and made it to #75 on the R&B chart. 'Stretch In Out' is a great record but Miss Adams is way too restrained on this number IMO. I really wish that Patti LaBelle had been the one to record this tune back in 1980. She definitely would've given it the "oomph" that it needed to make it to the top of the charts! |

What's up Juice! I've read that 'Stretch In Out' was very well received in NYC. What kind of club play did it get back in the day? Did you spin it in your DJ days? That song is my jam! I never get sick of it. I've never heard Gayle's 'Your Love Is A Lifesaver' or 'Love Fever' before. I do know that 'Love Fever' was her biggest hit on the charts and the song that she is primarily known for. The only other tune I've heard by Miss Adams is 'Let's Go All The Way'. She does give a little more vocally on that track than she did on 'Stretch In Out' but she still doesn't quite let loose and belt it out. I'm anxious to hear her on the cuts you mentioned. I'll keep my eyes peeled for them. Thanks man. |
