Good morning Mike, At one time I had nearly if not entirely all Otis Leavill's singles and had only a lp he made for Columbia. The only single I have on him is "Baby" from his Brunswick days, my favorite. Also Mike he was a close family friend of the Vows/Majors out of chicago, and was really close friends with with the group's lead vocalist Fuzzy Buckner. Is the P.S. Recording Studios is still active? If they are what other things they do besides recording music. That's a great pics of Sarah Vaughan & "Bird" Charlie Parker, "Gino" Eugene Record & Carl Davis. I remember meeting on a couple occasions The Late Trombonist Johnny Avant in the late 60's. I thought Steve Cobb plated jazz Mike. Gino has always been a favorite spot to grab a bite to eat. Sorry, if I mistaken you at Ms. Armstead's home back in the day..I truly apologise. DVD Mike, you think I could send you a email and can you post yours so that I could correspond off-line, ok? Don |

Excellent job.......thanks for giving Detroit some Chi-town flavor..... Kdubya Think I'm gonna go pop for that digital camera my wife has been doggin me about...... I think you could use a hand my friend. Too bad we dont have the shots of the first Mickey D's on Vincennes ave or the First Popeyes at 51st State replete with Popeye and Olive Oyl emblazoned on the side of the faux railroad car...its where I first met Muhammad Ali.... |

At the time of the photo, my mom was a dance instructor at the Club DeLisa. Most nightclubs of the day also had dance classes. At the time, there was a popular dance called the Mambo. My dad decided to take lessons and just happened to get into my mom's class. That's how they met. |

Mike, my buddy's computer is messed up. I'll send a email as soon things get sorted out. I passed by 55th & state not long ago. I can see where the club/hotel used to be. I think it is a vacant lot now. I think it is a couple of steps from where they built a bakery store there on the same side of the block. The barkery is on the corner right at 55th State and Garfield you might say. Over across the street on the opposite corner is a polish sauage/chicken & fries/piaza place. 9-8 yrs ago, I use to eat there if I was happen to work over that way in the vacinity where I'd often have my lunches there. DVDMike, Great shots!! Thanks for giving this New York boy a tour of your Windy City. I have deep respect for Chicago Soul & the great talent that existed there in those glory days. So many great artists sprung from such a condensed area. There must have been something in the water for sure!! Don: Otis Leavill had an LP!!!! Man, I never knew that & never saw it either. Whaty's the name of it, I'd sure like to see that one!!! Does he sing in falsetto, or did he sing falsetto only in his Dakar years with Eugene?? |

Yo Mike, your right. I recall there we're two Burning Spears that was located on the southside. Juice, it's been a long time but I only had all of Otis' singles not lp's. I know he put out some lp's. What Voice register he sung in I can't recall right off the top of my head right now, cause it has been too long of a time. I'll check it out thru my DJ buddy of mine, if he still has Otis' lp's. |
