The DVD will be in stores August 24.

I saw the movie in March, 2003. It is not to be missed. The segment of him at the control board working with the original "Layla" master tapes is one of the great moments of the film (maybe any film), but there is a lot more to see.

I had the great pleasure to know Tom and watch him work in a studio (with Sam Moore no less). It was like watching Ted Williams hit, or Michael DeBakey do heart surgery. The movie does a great job of capturing Tom's genius and truly warm personality.

Go see it, rent it, buy it.

The review I read said it was too tehnical and not enough singing.

Since Dowd was a technical genius and not a singer, saying there wasn't enough singing in the movie is like criticizing "Lord of The Rings" because it didn't have any car chases. Anyone going in expecting SITSOM or "Only The Strong Survive" is going to be disappointed.

The movie is an affectionate and loving portrait of a man who was was a central architect in American popular music for a half-century. On those terms, which are the only valid ones on which the film should be considered, it is a wonderful movie, and true to its goal.

I CANT WAIT to see it, as I have been a fan of his work for decades now.

I had the pleasure of working on the desks he designed for Atlantic studios, and the one in studio B had "backwards faders", the concept being that when the faders are moved down, the sound was coming toward you and vice versa!
Took a while to get used to it but it was cool.

Wasn't this on TV around the same time as the Scorsese Blues Series. I could've sworn I saw the last third of a documentary with Tom showing how he mixed the Layla sessions. It was GOOOOD if my memory servers me correct...as it does from time to time.

Destruction,
your memory is not failing you. The film aired on the Sundance channel many months ago.
